I really struggle when it comes to hot drinks on this diet.

I am following a version of the Autoimmune Protocol so coffee is out for me. I am not a fan of green tea either, just can't stomach the stuff.

I am looking for Autoimmune Protocol friendly ideas for hot drinks, preferably caffeine free.

Something I could buy from the supermarket would be ideal. :-)

I've also used raw liquorice powder with hot water - works fine too.

I started it for sore throats when I was pregnant, and it made it's way into my everyday routine.

http://paleohacks.com/questions/158215/hot-drink-ideas/158241#158241Answer by Nachi for Hot drink ideas?Nachi2012-10-26T13:56:21Z2012-10-26T13:56:21Z
Rooibos tea, aka Red African tea, is caffeine free, and in my opinion, delicious. I'm not sure how it fits in to the AIP, though. It is technically an herb, not tea.

I've seen it stocked at all the major supermarkets. Tazo Tea makes an Organic Apple Red tea which has apple and caramel flavors, but one of the ingredients is "Natural Flavors" -- I'm doubting that works with AIP... If you're in the states, Kroger's store brand is just plain rooibos.

It's great stuff. I steep it for about half an hour and drink it hot or over ice.

http://paleohacks.com/questions/158215/hot-drink-ideas/158252#158252Answer by nursling for Hot drink ideas?nursling2012-10-26T14:30:50Z2012-10-26T14:30:50Z
rooibos is great. so is roasted dandelion root (Traditional Mecidinals) for something resembling coffee. if you can find dried hibiscus flowers, those make a wonderfully tart tea, and with a squirt of lemon juice it's very refreshing. it's the ingredient in Tazo Passion tea and the Celestial Seasonings Zingers, but those brands have scary ingredients.
also boiling cinnamon sticks for a while yields a spicy, sweet tea from the cinnamon oil. that's pretty yummy

If you don't mind a little bit of caffeine (but nowhere near as much as coffee), try a loose-leaf chai tea. I make mine with coconut milk and water, boil it on the stove, and then strain it. It's very good!

Get a black tea-free chai or make your own. The warm spices are so nice this time of the year.

I also love this recipe and it's great for reducing inflammation:

I freeze broth in Ice cube trays and pop a few in my cup to microwave (or heat on the stovetop). Yum!

Add a squeeze of lemon to really perk up the flavor.

I love peppermint tea brewed with a slice of raw ginger, or even garlic if I'm coming down with something. Bone broth and rooibos teas are also favorites.

Good luck on the autoimmune protocol!

etc.

Also, googling "turmeric tea bags" gives enough results so I am sure you can find some in a supermarket.

However, i was consuming more than i'd like to, so i cut it down to 2-3 cups a week, mainly pre-training to rip off some adrenaline-rush benefits.

Until i found Chicory. Roasted ground chicory, with a dash of cinamon, or blended with some tablespoons of coconut milk/oil and one or two egg yolks is the most awsome latte, even surppassing Bullterproof coffee. And it is gentle onde the adrenals, for me is a wonderfull Autumn morning drink. Really.

http://paleohacks.com/questions/158215/hot-drink-ideas/171532#171532Answer by Marcy for Hot drink ideas?Marcy2013-01-07T14:45:45Z2013-01-07T14:45:45Z
Coffeeproof Bullet: add steaming hot water to a glass, drop in 2 raw egg yolks, a huge pat of unsalted grassfed butter, tbs of gelatin and a few scoops of unsweetened cocoa. Blend with an immersion blender. It like creamy cocoa and also gives me the bitter kick that I miss from coffee. You can also add a drop of peppermint or vanilla extract or cinnamon and nutmeg or use coconut milk if you're so inclined.

I drink this every morning and get quite fussy when I don't have it now. The cocoa has a nice dose of magnesium without any sugar that gets in the way of absorption and the egg yolks are generally a nutrition bomb.

I doubt you'll find it in a supermarket, but if you're really lucky you might find some in your back yard! It's made from a fungus that grows on mature birch trees.

It's dark with a rich earthy flavor that doesn't remind me of coffee, but I would say is "fuller" than most teas. It's supposedly really good for you.
