Eggs from pastured chickens in the San Diego area? - PaleoHacks.com most recent 30 from http://paleohacks.com2013-05-19T10:42:56Zhttp://paleohacks.com/feeds/question/23237http://www.creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/2.5/rdfhttp://paleohacks.com/questions/23237/eggs-from-pastured-chickens-in-the-san-diego-areaEggs from pastured chickens in the San Diego area?Jack Kronk2011-02-15T17:50:09Z2013-02-12T20:36:56Z

I buy only organic eggs from free roaming chickens, but as well all know, this does not mean they are free roaming on a pasture. It just means they can roam around in whatever capacity the keepers allow them to. It also just means that the grain feed is organic.

So as much as I can, I buy "Vital Farms" eggs from Whole Foods, but they are $6.99 a dozen!

Does anyone have personal experience buying eggs from a local farm or group that raises the chickens on pasture and does everything 'right'?

I know about localharvest.com. i know about eatwild.com. But I have not had any success with that so I still want to know if anyone has a personal testimony and could possibly point me in the right direction.

Thanks!

I have yet to try a nearby Farmers Market, but I've heard that pastured eggs can indeed be found there.

They are the only stand there that sell eggs and it's $4.50 a dozen. Here is more info on what their chickens eat: http://gamafarms.com/produce.php

If they are not fenced over, they are dead meat. I get my eggs for $3.00 a dozen from a lady down the street who has a big pen full of chickens. She feeds them fruit, seeds, table scraps, etc. No chemicals. It's not a perfect freerange environment, but the chickens are happy and healthy, and it's MUCH better than the commercial crap from the store. I live in Escondido. If that is close enough, I'll give you her phone number, but you have to drive there and pick the eggs up yourself. She is just a housewife who grows food on the side. It's not a big commerial enterprise.
