Fat advice? Chris 2011-02-24T00:02:03Z 2011-02-24T11:49:58Z
Have been Paleo for a while, but still figuring out what´s best for me to eat. Inspired by blogs like hyperlipid and paleonu, I have been reintroducing dairy (butter and cream) as a way of increasing fat. Have found that I want to reduce protein (to about 10%) and increase fat to (to about 85%), and was happy to discover how easy this was when I ate lots of dairy. Haven´t eaten dairy for probably two months before this.

Unfortunately, since eating this, I have been breaking out A LOT. Meaning there´s really no way this can be caused by anything but the dairy. So disappointed because my skin was finally clearing up, haven´t had new breakouts for weeks before this...

So i was wondering if anyone else are eating a lot of fat and little protein? What are your fat sources? My stomach can´t tolerate coconut milk either, so that´s another fat source I have to avoid.

Thanks for any advice!
http://paleohacks.com/questions/24524/dairy-and-acne-fat-advice/24526#24526 Answer by Helen for Dairy and acne.. And some people have good luck with ghee when they can't eat regular butter.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/24524/dairy-and-acne-fat-advice/24529#24529 Answer by Adah for Dairy and acne.. Find a butcher where you can get it cheap and you'll save yourself the expense of buying fatty cuts of beef all the time. Save bacon fat and chicken drippings -- refrigerate the drippings and scrape the fat off the top for cooking, and reserve the gelatin to melt in stir-fries for flavor. Buy non-shelf-stable lard (the kind without all the additives) for cooking.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/24524/dairy-and-acne-fat-advice/24547#24547 Answer by Dana for Dairy and acne.. If you can find raw milk in your locale, even better. (Yes, there is a slight risk of getting sick from it. You are at just as much risk of getting sick from pasteurized, though, and you can get sick from other raw foods as well.) If you're getting organic milk, check the label and see if it's ultrapasteurized. Most commercially available organic milk is. They might as well have cooked it, there's not much good in it left and the proteins and fats have probably been altered to a form that has your body going "WTF???" The Weston Price Foundation says there are huge differences between raw, pasteurized, and ultra-pasteurized and I've heard anecdotal accounts of people who get allergies or breakouts on the latter two but do fine on the raw.

As far as other fat sources, probably it will be better for you in the long run to get more beef fat in your diet rather than chicken or pork fat. I love me some chicken wings and bacon and I have cooked with lard, but both of them contain more PUFAs than I would like, especially the chicken.

Coconut oil is excellent too. Lots of medium-chain fatty acids. Even someone with a wonky or missing gallbladder can usually handle coconut oil with no problem.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/24524/dairy-and-acne-fat-advice/24598#24598 Answer by animalcule for Dairy and acne.. I need to get a lot of calories, and no other fat is so palatable and versatile.

Other main fats are coconut oil and beef fat (and sometimes leftover bacon fat) for cooking, and olive oil for cold dishes. Need to get some lard.

The last of my acne is gone since I stopped with the Greek yogurt, and all but small amounts of raw cheese. But I suppose my skin could still be better...
http://paleohacks.com/questions/24524/dairy-and-acne-fat-advice/24607#24607 Answer by Ikco for Dairy and acne.. Fat advice?
