JJ 2011-03-18T15:03:21Z 2012-07-28T21:41:51Z
After reading a PH thread on magnesium oil and then Billy E's recent blog post on it, I decided to try it. Apparently some people absorb it transdermally better than orally.

I bought the Swanson's brand, and the instructions say to spray 4-5 times on your skin, rub it in, and then rinse off thoroughly. (I have no connection to them. Billy E recommended that brand and they were cheaper than some others I looked at.)

My questions for you are:

How long do you wait to rinse it off? I waited about an hour last night, which I arbitrarily figure is reasonable. Would it absorb better if I waited longer?

Is it important to rinse it off? And if so, why?
http://paleohacks.com/questions/28235/magnesium-oil-needs-to-be-rinsed-off/28243#28243 Answer by Adam Crafter for Magnesium oil -- needs to be rinsed off? WordVixen 2011-03-18T17:27:43Z 2011-03-18T17:27:43Z
I don't know about Swanson's, but Ancient Minerals recommends waiting for 1/2 hour before rinsing off, but to only rinse it off if it gets uncomfortable. Like Adam, I don't bother, since any stinging or itching is gone after the first few minutes anyway. Assuming that Swanson's doesn't have any crazy additives, there's no reason to wash it off before your next swim/bath/shower unless you want to.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/28235/magnesium-oil-needs-to-be-rinsed-off/28291#28291 Answer by Kamal for Magnesium oil -- needs to be rinsed off? Kamal 2011-03-18T18:36:44Z 2011-03-18T18:36:44Z
I didn't rinse it off. The crusty layer was mildly annoying, and I eventually stopped using it and switched to citrate pills. But I can't think of a reason that it would be important to rinse off.

I'm guessing that the crust of magnesium probably won't absorb any more, unless you maybe put some drops of water on it later (not a shower or something that would wash it off).
http://paleohacks.com/questions/28235/magnesium-oil-needs-to-be-rinsed-off/139009#139009 Answer by Mark for Magnesium oil -- needs to be rinsed off? Mark 2012-07-28T21:41:51Z 2012-07-28T21:41:51Z
It is not necessary to rinse the magnesium oil off. Some people experience a tingling sensation when they first start using magnesium oil and may wish to rinse to relieve that sensation. If you do, wait at least 20 minutes before rinsing off. This gives the body time to absorb the magnesium into to the bloodstream.

This tingling lessens with each use, so eventually it won't be an issue at all.
