There's all the classic food sensitivities: wheat, legumes, and dairy. Cordain would also throw eggs into that mix. My assumption has been that I have those three for sure (I didn't assume cheese and peanut butter at first but then my body complained). Hopefully, I'll be able to consume dairy again someday. For now it's out of my life. Aside from the normal criminals, I've found one strange sensitivity: Tangerines. My body most definitely exhibits gut inflammation in response to them as characterized in the ways that gut inflammation is characterized... How but you? What weird sensitivities do you have?

I've also got this weird (but apparently not so uncommon) allergy to mango. Apparently the skin contains a mild form of poison ivy, or something like it. Gives me a rash all over my upper lip and the roof of my mouth, which isn't really visible but feel just awful. Doctor said to be careful around strawberries as well.

And finally, I can always tell when I've been glutened by this mild burning sensation in my stomach. And just in case I happen to miss that cue, my body will remind me, in all manner of ways, over the next two to three days.

Cooked tomatoes are better, but it still happens. No such response if I eat potatoes or other nightshades. I've never encountered anyone else who had it quite like this. I'm convinced that the eczema I supposedly had as a kid was actually a recurring tomato allergy.

Also? Pre-paleo, I had this very selective allergy to dairy products. Parlor ice cream (e.g., Coldstone) and any milk--but not cheese, butter, yogurt or store-bought ice cream--triggered mild anaphylaxis. Well, I say mild, but the last time I tempted fate, I had a pretty severe reaction--thought I might be headed to the hospital for a minute or so...

Anything with the word "autolyzed" in it. Any "_ protein isolate". Artificial sweeteners (splenda is ok by itself, but usually it's paired with something that isn't). I also get GERD symptoms with grainfed liquid/fresh dairy (milk, cream, soft cheeses), and I'm beginning to think the same with grainfed pig/pork products. gluten/dairy apparently makes my digestive tract unhappy, but in the scheme of things- easily deal-with-able.)

I get migraines, mostly, but also GERD symptoms (closing throat, throwing up, etc), eczema, other skin issues. There have been days/weeks/years where it's literally easier (and by easier I mean "apparently the only possible path") for me to avoid "real food" and survive on mountain dew and other things that are basically straight sugar- which has led to me being about 150# overweight.

I vomit, get lightheaded and get super itchy if I even touch a plate that shrimp has been on. It's kind of a cruel joke since I live in a Maine coastal community where lobster, shrimp, crab, etc. is plentiful, fresh and oftentimes super cheap or free with the right connections. I'm holding out hope that someday I'll be able to eat those things, though. An encouraging sign happened recently when I, after strongly craving to the point of dreaming about clams, tried a bite of clam chowder and had no negative reaction. Further experimentation has shown that I am no longer sensitive to molluscs (I was previously). Hopefully crustaceans will follow.
