Sara 2011-05-21T20:05:29Z 2012-10-24T18:50:39Z
Just poured out an expired bottle of pedialyte. I'm getting tired of pouring this stuff out, especially since it's not natural. I'm wondering if kids even need this stuff. If so, is there a way I can make my own as-needed? Thanks!
http://paleohacks.com/questions/39523/paleo-pedialyte/39525#39525 Answer by Thumper for Paleo Pedialyte? Corey 2011-05-22T05:17:36Z 2011-05-22T05:17:36Z
Pedialyte is essentially a pharmacy grade Gatorade, that is in a ratio (sodium/potassium) etc that is safe for babies. However, adults can use it as well. in fact many college wrestlers use it after cutting weight to rehydrate.

Use the powder packs version if you find you are throwing out the premixed stuff. Many other brands usually available in the pharmacy.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/39523/paleo-pedialyte/157740#157740 Answer by Amanda for Paleo Pedialyte? Amanda 2012-10-24T08:32:35Z 2012-10-24T08:32:35Z
I've been wondering about this too. To be honest I haven't found a recipe that I'm satisfied with for homemade pedialyte. I really like the idea of coconut water... so I was thinking of trying coconut water, sea salt, honey, freshly squeezed orange juice, freshly squeezed lemon juice and maybe some juice from some frozen berries (squeeze the juice from the thawed berries through a nut-milk bag). If it works out I'll post the recipe in case others are interested :)
http://paleohacks.com/questions/39523/paleo-pedialyte/157821#157821 Answer by nogutsnoglory for Paleo Pedialyte? nogutsnoglory 2012-10-24T15:04:26Z 2012-10-24T15:04:26Z
Coconut water is full of electrolytes and has more potassium than gatorade. I also like a product called ENDURE which has electrolytes and minerals from salt water. http://www.traceminerals.com/products/energy-performance/endure-performance-electrolyte
http://paleohacks.com/questions/39523/paleo-pedialyte/157869#157869 Answer by miked for Paleo Pedialyte? miked 2012-10-24T18:50:39Z 2012-10-24T18:50:39Z
I also add my vote for coconut water as the best electrolyte replenisher. I unfortunately hate the taste of coconut water so as a close second is (not-from concentrate) grapefruit juice. It is high in potassium while being low in sugar. It's still a bit sugary if that's a concern for you, but compared to other drinks or other ways to get electrolytes, it's a good choice.
