<p>when i told my neurologist that i was on the paleo diet, and i believed that it was a large part of why my MS was in remission for so long, he sent me a certified letter kicking me out of the practice "due to a mutual lack of respect". in the end it was a good thing, as i am now with a neurologist who respects my decisions and collaborates with me on a treatment plan. but i have learned that i dont volunteer the information, in general. upon advice from a friend, i now just tell my doctors that i stopped eating all processed foods and sugar. no one is going to argue with me over something like that. if a friend asks me about the paleo diet, i usually point them to three sites: MDA, robb wolf FAQ and dr. harris' 12 steps.</p>

<p>I send normal folks to Mark Sisson's website. I send smarter or nerdier friends to Archevore. And I send full blown nerds and intellectuals to Guyenet, Deans, Kresser, and the Jaminets.</p> <p>I would ask the doctor if she has a background in statistics and whether or not she has kept up-to-date on statin trials. If she says Yes, then I'd discuss the findings. If she says No, then I'd tell her why I'm choosing to reject the prescription (the findings are weak and suggest that side effects might outweigh possible benefits).</p>

<p>When friends come to me wanting to know about paleo, I send them Dr. Harris' 12 steps and some kind of "getting started" link on Mark's Daily Apple. When I went to my nurse practitioner a few months for a blood panel, I explained my diet to her, and she told me it sounds like I live a healthy lifestyle, I like her :)</p>

<p>My daughter (emthedrummer) and I made a paleo flyer that she can leave lying around in the vegan cafes at all the punk/anarchist things she goes to. We put the links to MDA, archevore, letthemeatmeat and Lierre Keith on it but I don't suppose anyone in those places actually reads it.</p>
