Although I know mostly everyone loves cod-liver oil. I do not, in 2000, WWF placed cod on the endangered species list. Even if I am a meat eater I have my limits. And as a meat eater I choose to eat organic, humanely-raised meats that are not at risk for instinction. What do you use it for?

This may seem a silly question, but is it flavored? The cinnamon is the easiest for me to get down but it can get a little hot.... If it's not flavored, maybe contact the company about your reaction and see what they say.

Yeah, I've experienced the same burning when biting through my fermented cod liver oil pills (was curious about the taste) from green pasture. After this experience i just swallowed the whole thing.

Nowadays, I eat cod liver in its own oil (tin). It's very cheap, absolutely delicious and enough for one or even two meals. 8oo kcals in one serving !!!

I found putting the oil at the back of my mouth and chasing it with apple cider vinegar diluted with water instantly stops any reaction, but be careful to have your throat closed when you squirt the oil there! I've taken almost a full bottle now and find it much easier. I now use a half teaspoon, take it and follow it up with milk or a food. Since it's my first bottle and the above site says the taste sometimes is different, it will be interesting to see what the next bottle is like.

I did do some research on forums like the GAPS or SCD diet forums and the burning, the wicked taste, etc, are normal. So I am trusting that it is not rancid. I get fast shipping and put it right in the fridge. It's been around at least several years. I'd think there would be warnings online if there was a danger.

Wow, now I know where those burning sensations were coming from (though mine also felt like something was caught in my throat). I thought it was from another supplement I was taking with it, but guess it was the cod liver oil! I've only gotten it a couple times though. Pretty uncomfortable.

I had the same experience the first time I took FCLO straight (not in pills). A few hours after I took it, I got a horrendous burning from my stomach up to my throat. I seriously felt like I was going to die. Apparently some people can get nasty acid reflux from taking FCLO- and I did. But only the first day. The second day there was some burning, but not so bad. After the second day- none.

I was taking the emulsified stuff, and I'm never doing that again. The taste I could deal with, and I got over the burning quickly, but the texture and the taste combined is more than I can stand. I currently take the pills, but I'm looking into the liquid stuff. I just wish they had the FCLO and butter oil blend in liquid form.

I dont know. When i first tried i also felt uncomfort. Now i feel very well with it. It taste delicious. And i imagine me being a viking with thebig boxes of fermented cod liver oil in front of the houses.

then it just taste much more delicous. just imagine you have been on sea living in viking cottages and enjoy your cod liver oil and you were craving for it a long time. and it feel realy good.

How is this stuff made? I didnt see the method on green pastures site. Why is it better than normal CLO? You would think it would be rancid. Anyhow sounds awful, but i may give it a try if theres some evidence...Thanks!

When I put my meal in the bowl/plate, I mix CLO into the bone broth or other liquid in the warm food. It actually has a nice effect on overall flavor and I've never experienced any burning or other after-effects.

Wow - I have just had to look this phenomenon up after experiencing a horrific burning at the back of my throat and all the way down my oesophagus immediately after taking 2 ml of Green Pastures fermented cod liver oil by syringe. I actually wondered if I should go to Emergency as I thought I might be having an allergic reaction. I have been taking this oil, in exactly the same way, for several months, and before that (with a six=month gap in between) I took it for over a year. There was a very, very mild burning, more like a catching in the throat occasionally, but nothing like this! I think I may have to stop taking it as I could not face this happening again. BTW I looked down my throat with a mirror and a torch and it is very red indeed. The burning is only just beginning to go away after five minutes and a LOT of water.

This is 100% normal and can be expected from CLO.

This is very interesting and about 15 months ago I tried plain FCLO and had a similar response and then a horrible cough began at the exact moment and lasted for 10 weeks! (I wonder if we had the same batch of FCLO?) I thought that something from the FCLO had become lodged in my chest. By throat burned, I gagged and thought that I might soon die all for the good of trying to my my breastmilk more full of DHA, etc. Now I am wondering if there might be truth to rancidity in the product. I have tried the capsules and they are fine, but I am still wondering if FCLO is a product that we should even be "eating" if it is so horrendous.

I was really excited to take the fclo. I took it for a few weeks and didn't notice any good or bad effects so I forgot about it for a bit. when I took it one day I had a terrible stomach ache and burning which I never thought to attribute to the fclo. the next day I didn't take it and was fine day after that I took a quarter tsp and it started burning immediately. it felt like I swallowed bleach. I had to go to emergency after being up for 3 days straight and not being able to eat. I'm only starting to recover now a month later. be careful with the fclo!! to be honest, I'm pretty hesitant to take any supplements now.
