I've always had great luck with organized yoga, 7am beachside Sunday mornings
http://paleohacks.com/questions/5499/do-you-have-bad-experiences-with-yoga/5508#5508 Answer by ben61820 for Do you have bad experiences with yoga? ben61820 2010-06-02T00:27:29Z 2010-06-02T00:27:29Z
I have only done bikram yoga, that's the kind done in a seriously hot room. I've loved every minute of it. Actually, I should be doing it nowadays too;) it's great cuz you don't really feel as if you're working out and yet you get pretty visible results. Easy way to cut weight quickly if you wanna lean out and get cut. Your flexibility goes through the roof. And, don't know if there's more to this than what I've figured but, I've gotten a pretty killer sexual performance boost from regular hot yoga work;)
http://paleohacks.com/questions/5499/do-you-have-bad-experiences-with-yoga/5516#5516 Answer by Jennie for Do you have bad experiences with yoga? The only thing I can think of was when I was late in my pregnancy and had symphisis pubis dysfunction, if we did any hip openers, I would be in some serious pain after class. But after the first few times, it was my fault for not going, "hmmm, perhaps I should skip this pose."
http://paleohacks.com/questions/5499/do-you-have-bad-experiences-with-yoga/5615#5615 Answer by Ryan for Do you have bad experiences with yoga? It makes my first day on the mountain feel as good as mid season. My balance is on point and I feel "loose." The teacher does matter. I've been to 3 different teachers there and only 1 was good. The other two I almost left during the class they were so bad and annoying. I wouldn't say it's the end all be all but if you have some free classes in your gym it's worth adding some to your regular workout

Edit: I just realized this but I do a handful of the moves I learned in yoga class on a daily basis before bed at night. Mostly stuff to loosen up my back and shoulders. So yeah, it's worth going a few times to learn the moves. The basics are pretty easy to learn and do stretch you out.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/5499/do-you-have-bad-experiences-with-yoga/5623#5623 Answer by Nick for Do you have bad experiences with yoga? I told the instructor I had a bad back, but he had me do these toe-touching type poses nonetheless. My Bikram yoga instructor was a little crazy too and tried to force people who were unwell to stay in the class. I get the theory (you have to let your body recover before leaving the room because of the change of temperature) but still, it was a little upsetting.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/5499/do-you-have-bad-experiences-with-yoga/12231#12231 Answer by JohnnyR for Do you have bad experiences with yoga? I was a circuit training guy for many years, and still am occasionally, but have now made yoga my primary form of exercise. There are many forms of yoga that are not scientifically sound in their physical application, or generally boring though. This does seem to be a very positive byproduct of the agricultural revolution, which possibly led to hinduism, vedanta, and yoga being created ( my concept, no offense ). Yogic exercises can be morphed into achieving any kind of fitness result you'd like with the right application. I believe it to be a predecessor or accompaniment to gymnastics.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/5499/do-you-have-bad-experiences-with-yoga/12251#12251 Answer by David Csonka for Do you have bad experiences with yoga? I don't know how women put up with that kind of inappropriate touching. I really like doing Yoga, but I always wonder if there is a huge benefit from a time spent standpoint. I also just got this Kundalini yoga DVD. It is very odd, but gets rave reviews. I would love to know what others think about results?
http://paleohacks.com/questions/5499/do-you-have-bad-experiences-with-yoga/96679#96679 Answer by Azat for Do you have bad experiences with yoga? Here are some horror stories:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/08/magazine/how-yoga-can-wreck-your-body.html?pagewanted=all for you.

So please don't take your first "yoga" class in the gym or level 3. Mostly likely it'll be bad.

Much bigger definition of Yoga particularily Hatha Yoga is Asana+Meditation+Pranayama. Last two are more powerful and accessible to mostly everybody with minimal harm when done under proper teaching.

I'm certified 200h YWTT soon to be 500h YWTT.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/5499/do-you-have-bad-experiences-with-yoga/96741#96741 Answer by Laura for Do you have bad experiences with yoga? My acupuncturist told me that certain people just really do not do well with bikram and I think I'm definitely one of them. I do however immensely enjoy other types of yoga, as long as it's treated more like a spiritual than a physical activity. I believe that's how it's meant to be.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/5499/do-you-have-bad-experiences-with-yoga/96756#96756 Answer by MtnEvan for Do you have bad experiences with yoga? They feel good, in the same way ice baths feel good, where your body comes alive with sensation.

But then afterwards, you get out and you hear people talk about how badass they are for toughing it out in a 105F room for 90 minutes. I thought the point is to have 90 minutes of gentle movement meditation, not masochism? And then I hear folks saying they lost 5lbs in a session...bro, you're going to gain it all back in a day, it's just water weight.

I guess it's not so much the class itself but the people.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/5499/do-you-have-bad-experiences-with-yoga/96761#96761 Answer by Laina for Do you have bad experiences with yoga? In terms of injuries, no, no problems. I'd rather just stretch on my own, though.
