<p>Been looking to get one of those calcium scores and found a close place. The heart scan is read and interpreted by a board-certified radiologist who will calculate your calcium score - a measurement of calcified plaque within the heart and coronary arteries. The higher the calcium score, the greater the likelihood of a future coronary "event" such as a heart attack or the need for angioplasty, stents or bypass surgery.</p> <p>According to the American Heart Association, the calcium score generated by the ViaScan is "the most powerful predictor" of future coronary events in apparently healthy people. <p>My husband got one in Wichita, Ks at the Galicia Heart Hospital for $149. But the $495 sounds pretty good. When I originally called about one the price was over $1000.</p>

<p>The question should be: are you going to get $500 worth of value from the information they give you? Will it ease your mind to know your heart is OK? If it comes back that your heart is bad what changes will you make? Pretend you have all the data, what would you do with that data. How would you change your life depending on the different results you could get? If you know the paths you'd take, and it's worth $500 to get that data, then it's a fair price; otherwise, it's not. </p>
