My local store stocks Icelandic canned cod liver. It is canned in its own oil, with 1% salt added. It is reasonably priced. The taste is OK, in moderation. Can anyone comment on this product and how it compares with cod liver oil?

There is an issue with overfishing, but Iceland's involvement in the problem is unclear. Also interesting are the minor "cod wars" that have been waged between Iceland and Britain.

Health wise, it seems like this is the most natural form of cod liver oil you can possibly get. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the negatives of consuming the oil are mitigated by the inclusion of the whole liver, but I am not sure of this. Of course, those who avoid all canned products would also avoid this one.

I eat cod liver about once every 2-3 weeks. It's the only canned product I eat, so I don't worry about the can part. The taste is delicious, make sure you put it in the fridge, it tastes better cold.
Cod liver falls in my category of "feel good" foods. A distinct feeling of well being for a few hours after consumption. (I get the same feeling from liquid whey, natto and a few other things)
You can add some shredded nori ( sea weed sheets ) to it.

I sent a tin to Richard N. from Free the animal. He had never heard of it. I think he liked it.

At $2.69 for a 120g(4.2oz) here in Canada, I am going to start eating this regularly. I find that it has a very neutral/natural taste compared to straight CLO. Maybe its just that I have had rancid CLO before, but the cod liver packed in its own oil was awsome. This is the stuff I got: http://www.edelweissimports.com/sf-cod-liver-packed-in-oil-pr-145.html. Only I got mine off the shelf at a local store.

You can buy it at most Russian stores which are common in the northeast. I buy the King Oscar brand. It's from Norway and very delicious. Besides coconut milk, and the rare wild salmon it's the only thing I eat canned. Russians eat it on bread with sour farmers cheese. I just eat it out of the can. It makes me feel really good when I do. I wish it was possible to buy fresh. Is be a bigger addict than I already am.

I buy it in Taiwan at a grocery called JASON, which you can find in bigger cities- I buy mine in Hsinchu. The brand is Ajtel Iceland, and it is a 115g tin and I find the taste very rich and delicious, and the cod liver oil it is packed in is quite superior! It is 89NT dollars, or just under $3 USD, which I find reasonable. I recommend giving this a try.

The texture is not like cooked liver.

Tastes good though but I wonder how often I should eat a tin for healthy Omega 3-6 ratios.

I eat a lot of chicken (cheaper) and red meats (slow cooked roasts are delicious for supper)

Fish is also a staple (frozen fillets usually) and I can't forget cheese!
