Korion 2011-10-06T17:21:21Z 2012-10-04T18:43:03Z
I bought a batch of grass-fed beef (from Galloway cows) today. I asked the vendors something like 10 times in the past month if there is anything in their hamburgers and sausages except for beef. The first time they told me it was fine. The second time they told me there is salt and pepper in it. The third time they told me there are also herbs and spices in it. Then they told me there are eggs in them (their chickens are soy-fed because they don't have a better solution). Now I saw on the package that there is dextrose in it.

I'm trying to get totally rid of skin issues, and most of all digestion issues. How bad is dextrose?
http://paleohacks.com/questions/68923/dextrose-in-my-meat/68928#68928 Answer by cliff for Dextrose in my meat? cliff 2011-10-06T17:57:57Z 2011-10-06T17:57:57Z
Dextrose is just pure glucose, probably not that harmful in the amounts in your meats.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/68923/dextrose-in-my-meat/68930#68930 Answer by Olivia for Dextrose in my meat? Olivia 2011-10-06T18:00:40Z 2011-10-06T18:00:40Z
Yes dextrose is just glucose. You're not ingesting anything terrible, don't worry. Anyway, the stress from worrying about it seems far more likely to cause more digestive upset than the minor amount of dextrose in a sausage.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/68923/dextrose-in-my-meat/68962#68962 Answer by tonysolo for Dextrose in my meat? tonysolo 2011-10-06T21:36:51Z 2011-10-06T21:36:51Z
The real story is that your seller doesn't know a damn thing about his product.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/68923/dextrose-in-my-meat/68992#68992 Answer by Jan for Dextrose in my meat? Jan 2011-10-07T04:12:00Z 2011-10-07T04:12:00Z
Dextrose is used now in most cured meats like salami. To get the fermention process going. Sometimes its added to add some sweetness and improve browning. There isnt usually a whole lot of dextrose in cured products, some artisan makers only use like 10grams of sugar per 2kg of meat or so, so thats nothing. I bet industrail stuff uses more and arent usually even cured like the good hand made stuff.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/68923/dextrose-in-my-meat/153695#153695 Answer by earthpilgrim for Dextrose in my meat? earthpilgrim 2012-10-04T18:43:03Z 2012-10-04T18:43:03Z
I think they use it as a binder and it helps with water retention- so it weighs more. It is made from corn syrup though!
