Thomy 2011-12-23T18:52:40Z 2011-12-25T13:12:31Z
Hi,

I'm really interested whether here are people around who actually healed a food allergy or autoimmune condition with a strict paleo diet? I'm reacting to dairy, soy and beef and doctors generally say such things last forever. But I'm sure once the main culprit (dysbiosis, leaky gut etc.) has been cured, the symptoms (food allergies) will disappear as well.

So can anybody speak from experience and proof my doc a liar?

Thanks!

EDIT:

Thanks for your great responses! It seems there is a big possibility to alleviate food allergies with the "right" paleo nutrition. Thats a great reason to hope!
http://paleohacks.com/questions/85459/anybody-healed-food-allergies/85471#85471 Answer by Nance for Anybody healed food allergies? So far, what I thought was a recently-discovered intolerance for wheat seems to be a full-fledged allergy so if anything it's gotten worse since I became more healthy.

On the other hand, I could not handle yogurt, ice cream or other milk products and I thought I was lactose intolerant. Once I started drinking water kefir, though, I first discovered I could safely eat full-fat and now--yay!--I have eaten ice cream with no negative reaction at all.

So, I think my reactions to milk and milk products had to do with my community of gut flora, which ancestral eating and water kefir have fixed. Wheat, on the other hand, is something I have antibodies for and will probably be a life-long taboo.

BTW, the wheat-related symptoms that got better are: chronic sinus congestion, hacking cough, GERD, increasing blood pressure. So if that's your problem, ancestral eating can bring great relief but it may or may not allow you to ever return to eating grain.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/85459/anybody-healed-food-allergies/85474#85474 Answer by Jesse for Anybody healed food allergies? The immune system is complex, so work on getting healthier and hope for the best.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/85459/anybody-healed-food-allergies/85475#85475 Answer by Hannah Willette for Anybody healed food allergies? Check out my story on my "about me" section. To spoil the ending... he is COMPLETELY healed. We did blood work a year ago to watch his markers and this fall we did a food challenge and he passed! I have a food blog and you can also see some awesome paleo recipes with lots of photos.

http://www.thewholekitchen.com/
http://paleohacks.com/questions/85459/anybody-healed-food-allergies/85481#85481 Answer by panteleimon for Anybody healed food allergies? panteleimon 2011-12-23T21:58:50Z 2011-12-23T21:58:50Z
Cutting out grains (i.e. gluten) has healed my gut enough to enable me to eat dairy again.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/85459/anybody-healed-food-allergies/85530#85530 Answer by JeJ for Anybody healed food allergies? JeJ 2011-12-24T03:43:07Z 2011-12-24T03:43:07Z
It should be noted though, if you have an anaphylactic allergy don't try it out! Get retested for your allergies by an allergist after you have been on the paleo diet for some time. I studied microbiology/immunology for a couple years, and, regardless of diet, it is not uncommon for allergies to come and go in phases. Of course, I'm sure having a healthy immune system fueled by a good diet is always useful! However, it should be warned that some allergies will probably never be "grown out of", which is why you should get tested! My BF was allergic to EVERYTHING, and he dropped a lot of his allergies, but he is still allergic to fish and peanuts, didn't outgrow it, so that's too bad.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/85459/anybody-healed-food-allergies/85606#85606 Answer by Efaitch for Anybody healed food allergies? For me, the culprit seems to have been cows dairy (my son has eczema which is caused by cows dairy too). However, if I slip and have a little, I still have flare ups - but, I'm not 100% compliant. I'm sure that if I was for a reasonable amount of time, then things would remit.
