Does anyone have any good suggestions for purchasing grass-fed meat in southern Ontario? I am from Hamilton, Ontario (not far from Toronto) and having a hard time finding good meat options. I am looking for grass-fed beef, pastured chicken, etc. I have gone to a nearby "Goodness Me" store and their options weren't great (lots of 'organic' meat but few options that were grass-fed). I am also looking for pastured butter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I don't mind a long drive as I have a deep freezer and can purchase in bulk.

It's about a two-hour drive from here. The farmer is a bit of an activist, and will insist on giving you the farm tour, which I consider a bonus! I've bought a quarter cow from him in the past, and right now I'm working on half a pig. He doesn't sell individual cuts of meat. You must buy a half or quarter of the animal, and pick it up at the processing facility. I am not sure about posting his email address publicly like this. Is there a way to send a private message on this site?

The grass fed farmer down the road from me sells to industry because there isn't much awareness nor interest locally.

They source from all over and carry high quality meats - I made a bulk order of grassfed beef from them in December. They also carry bison, venison, elk, lamb etc. Great store.

In addition, there is crocodile, alligator, muskox and caribou. There ribeye and free range chickens are particularly delicious. They also sell salmon, a host of raw cheeses, duck (and duck eggs), silkie eggs and chicken eggs along with turkey.

We love the grass-fed (and finished) beef from Beretta Farms, near King City. They deliver on $200 orders and also have a retail outlet in Etobicoke. It's a bit pricey so we order almost exclusively from their monthly sale flyer. Their grass-fed ground beef tastes like roast beef to me. :)

Jayne Quick raises her own cows and butchers them. They are grass fed and hay fed in the winter. Call ahead to make sure there is some in stock. Its not a grocery store by any means- a small animal feed place. The meat is tender and CHEAP $1.99/bs ground beef and $3.50 to $5.00/lb for steak.905-627-7171
