<p>Hey there fellow hackers!</p> <p>I am writing a research paper for my nutrient metabolism class on "high fructose consumption and leptin resistance".</p> <p>Could you all point me to some scholarly articles or "original" studies dealing with the subject? Specifically regarding FRUCTOSE (HFCS, most likely culprit) and leptin resistance would be great but even if they were studies about sugar in general and leptin that would be awesome too.</p> <p>Also, science behind "lepting reset" would be helpful as I'm wanting to put in information on what has been found to fix leptin resistance the best.</p> <p>Thanks in advance!</p>

<p>The only models that have shown leptin resistance with fructose are diets that contain 60% pure fructose, an amount that is basically impossible to consume in a normal diet. It hasn't really been shown in human diets either as far as I can find.</p> <p>"A different form of leptin resistance (in combination with insulin resistance and weight gain) easily arises in laboratory animals (such as rats), as soon as they are given unlimited (ad libitum) access to palatable, energy-dense foods,[62] and it is reversed when these animals are put back on low energy-density chow." <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leptin" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leptin</a></p> <p>This type of leptin resistance is probably more to blame than fructose induced leptin resistance.</p>

<p>Stephen Guyenet cites at least two such articles in <a href="http://wholehealthsource.blogspot.com/2008/12/leptin-resistance-and-sugar.html" rel="nofollow">this blog post</a>. It's worth running a search on Stephen's blog; he's a biochemist who specializes in this type of research.</p>
