FanOfSunshine2011-02-18T19:02:31Z2013-02-01T20:22:07Z

I am wondering what is going on in their body, when someone says they, "can't eat red meat." Do they have a gut problem? Can it be addressed with digestive enzymes? I would think that since red meat is paleo, how can it be that people CANNOT EAT IT?

Can there actually be an allergy to it? Is there such a thing as "red meat allergy?"

Some people on here and in the conventional SAD world, say they get backed up, and blame it on the red meat.

How can they get their health or brain back to eating red meat, (preferably grass fed)?

My only guess is that they have digestive issues from years of eating grains, but I am not scientist, expert, or doctor.

Also, what is the "ANSWER" when someone says they can't eat red meat because they have gout.

She doesn't understand the people who say they are 'carb loading' when she just goes about her day the same with or without soccer. It doesn't affect her performance.

She told me the other day that she doesn't feel the need to drink water during games either. Said her urine is light colored so she feels she is hydrated. Now, if she was practicing in Arizona I would be worried. She eats and drinks when she feels she needs to. Plain and simple.

I am wondering about the 'carb loading' (for athletics) idea actually, which brought me to your question. Perhaps being Paleo helps so you don't have to 'carb load', just a theory. Any input is appreciated.

First born does not need braces, but child #2 & #3 do. Both myself and my husband were not breastfed. Dr. Cate Shanahan author of Deep Nutrition has interesting insight into birth order and pre natal health. My kids were too close together in age (less than two years apart). We were not paleo either. Paleo started more so when they were 10ish. My oldest (age 16) resists the healthy eating the most and she has a bit of acne. My 14 year has a pretty clean diet and has perfect skin. We have always had good souced meat and eggs. My kids are healthy and robust. I think it is also interesting that both my girls are taller than me even though my husband is average height.

He is on a raw meat diet. The best deal for poultry is buying in bulk (under a $1 per/pound) he needs about 1 -2 pounds per day of food. Food is to consist of what would be 'natural' so bones, meat and liver. He also needs his share of red meat, the cheapest being pork at the restaurant supply store about 30 min away. I then have to cut up everything or take it out of the plastic, put on a try in the garage refrigerator. This has saved his life. He was close to being put down due to a degenerative disease called Wobblers Disease. He was 10 years old when I started this, and he is doing so well on this diet. I think I have added another good year of a quality life for him as he was bed ridden when I started this.

I spend so many hours getting food for my family of 5 as well. 20-30 min each trip probably 2-3 times a week, to various places. I am going to start getting some things from a CSA but that is still more drive time but reduces the trips to the grocery store.

http://paleohacks.com/questions/8587/how-to-add-fat-into-my-familys-diet-like-butterHow to add FAT into my family's diet like butter.FanOfSunshine2010-08-12T04:09:11Z2011-09-08T19:44:58Z

I would like to get my kids to eat more fat. They don't like coconut oil, but I slipped it into a smoothie today. They thought there was something wrong with it...'what did I put into it?,' they said.

I give them bacon which they do like. They also like cheese & yoghurt.

How do I get them to eat more butter? Putting it on crackers or bread would just add refined carbs that I am trying to avoid. I cook eggs in butter or coconut oil, but they don't like to eat eggs everyday. And of course there is the obvious to add it to cooked veggies.

What are some other ways to add butter and other fats to diet? They eat grass-fed beef (with all the fat), but that's mostly a dinner item.

Trying to get the family to leave the SAD behind, is taking patience, but I am not giving up! If I can't get grass-fed butter, is it still a good choice of nutrients?

http://paleohacks.com/questions/23299/a-cancer-diagnosis-and-paleoA Cancer Diagnosis and Paleo?FanOfSunshine2011-02-16T01:00:19Z2011-08-11T17:10:08Z

My worse nightmare came true. One of my best friends just got a cancer diagnosis. She is a perfect example of the Standard American Diet, but even more unhealthy. She has Inflammatory Breast Cancer. This is considered the "worst" type to get as it is very aggressive and fast growing.

At her doctor appointment today, (this being the day that they gave her the outcome of tests) also to set out her "plan" of treatment. She asked about nutrition. He said, he didn't think getting off of or staying away from sugar was going to help. He said she should take a multi-vitamin. She asked if she should stop smoking. Nope, they didn't tell her to stop smoking. I guess that is the least of their worries.

My girlfriend drank a 6 pack of coke a day, processed food was all she knew and/or fast food. She wishes she would have listened to me and has major regrets but is open to everything I have to say about nutrition despite what her doctor is telling her.

She would actually even consider alternative treatments, but she doesn't have time on her hands right now. She is schedule for some heavy duty chemo, then mastectomy, more chemo and then radiation.

I have spent the last year reading about these things, but she doesn't even know how to turn on a computer! Her prognosis wasn't good. The doctor said, "you might make it or you might not." (his exact words)

My questions for you (not that you are providing me specific medical advice) I would like general advice, like 'WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WERE GIVEN THIS DIAGNOSIS?

1) What are you thoughts regarding nutrition during cancer treatments?

2) Anybody out there a survivor while specifically eating paleo?

3) Do you believe there is a sugar connection?

I bought her a good quality multi vitamin, Vitamin D3, and a digestive enzyme supplement. She knows no more soda pop, candy bars, processed food, and no more fast food. She was told no sunshine exposure during chemo treatments. We live in Western Washington but I would like to take her on a sunny vacation when we are "allowed" to. Have you heard that before, no sunshine? It is contraindicated in for chemo.

Sorry, for such a long question. Thank you for your time.

Therefore, being bedridden have to be put down. That was the path we were on. He could NOT get up finally. I was desperate. Those supplements did NOT work one single bit and he had taken them for about 2 months and still got worse.

I changed my dog to a "natural diet" which is raw meat, some bones (like chicken thigh/leg). He is a spring chicken now, and with miraculous almost over night results. He runs around like a happy old dog that he is at age 10.

I completely, agree, for us humans, the best thing for joint issues is bone broth. Homemade grass fed beef bones--cooked in a crock pot (browned in the oven first)-- makes beautiful gelatinous bone broth.

Since it is the fat part of dairy, does it have the casein? I am asking for a friend of mine, who has auto-immune issues and she doesn't like eating coconut oil (she also doesn't like to swallow pills) so for the Omega 3 she might try liquid supplement. I am trying to find a a "fat" she will include & get variety also. http://paleohacks.com/questions/86123/has-anyone-been-sick-free-for-a-year-or-more/86182#86182Comment by FanOfSunshineFanOfSunshine2011-12-29T01:17:45Z2011-12-29T01:17:45ZI too, am NOT "germ a phobic". I search on Amazon and I am not quite sure I am finding the product that I want. One pair I see says, Amber lens, but it's yellow colored and also there is Uvex & Ubex...Do I search for safety glasses? or glasses? Or has someone made a blog posts and are wearing these? A picture visual would be great. I don't know why I am having difficulty finding these! thanks
