White rice is touted to be basically pure starch by Paul Jaminet on the basis that asain people eat it so it must be healthy right?

But it's not pure starch, it is a refined grain that most asain people haven't been eating that long.

Hakumai, polished rice came into use in the Genreku period at the end of the 17th century and the period at the beginning of the 18th century.
White rice still has phytic acid:

One phytic acid molecule has the ability to lock up many nutrients:

White rice is a poor source of all nutrients and phytic acid in white rice binds up lots of important nutrients like minerals, vitamins, and protein.

So why would anyone eat white rice over potatoes or other underground storage organs which are legitimately paleo and don't contain phytic acid?

IMO the best way to get lean and what has worked for me is to eat enough sugar and protein to maintain muscle/healthy metabolism with foods that are hard to overeat on such as low fat milk and orange juice. Keeping fat low is the key, if you do that you can pretty much eat as much as you want and you will lean out.

Sure a low carb(ketogenic) diet could work if you already have a ton of muscle mass but it will also probably tank your metabolism(which will cause health problems) and prevent muscle gains.

Fast digesting carbohydrates increase insulin sensitivity in normal people. I personally do a diet of mainly fruit and animal protein. Avoiding unripe fruit such as apples, pears and bananas can improve the gassey feelings. Strained fresh squeezed OJ usually causes no issues. I would avoid nuts as they are very high in PUFA and probably degraded from being stored so long, animals fat/protein are a much better option.http://paleohacks.com/questions/125237/the-starch-solution/125251#125251Comment by cliffcliff2012-06-05T17:17:46Z2012-06-05T17:17:46ZI dunno if you look at cronometer they are a pretty complete food, maybe your dogma prevents you from seeing that?http://paleohacks.com/questions/125237/the-starch-solution/125253#125253Comment by cliffcliff2012-06-05T00:27:27Z2012-06-05T00:27:27ZStarch is also more likely to cause hypoglycemia than sugar but it really isn't an issue if you don't eat PUFA with it or have a high concentration of PUfa in your tissuehttp://paleohacks.com/questions/125237/the-starch-solution/125253#125253Comment by cliffcliff2012-06-05T00:26:26Z2012-06-05T00:26:26Z@mambo- Those countries suffer so badly from diabetes because they have replaced traditional fats with seed oils.
