<p>I'm reading recipes across the net for how to use some marrow bones I luckily found at my meat counter this weekend. However, most recipes for soup / stock suggest skimming the fat off the broth once its done.</p>
<p>I know it could be reserved for later use (but in my case it will have herbs and veg stuck in it because its from a crockpot stew) but is that absolutely necessary?</p>
<p>I figured the reason is to lower the overall fat content of the broth to be more "healthy" but don't we want to keep the yummy healthy fat?</p>

<p>For example, salad dressing.
Today at work I decided to go to the grocery store and get all the ingredients for a healthy paleo-friendly salad instead of risking it with a chain joint. I succeeded!</p>
<p>But since I didn't have a container in which to make my own dressing, I decided to find one that was paleo-friendly in the salad dressing aisle. Wow! It took me about 10 minutes to find one that was even remotely ok, and even then it wasn't 100% perfect.</p>
<p>I had to decide between Newman's Own and Kraft (imagine that!!) and the deciding factor was Newman's Own had a much shorter ingredients list, even though it still contained some sugar (not corn syrup) and vegetable oils. The kraft had soybean oil much higher on the list, sugar as well, but many other ingredients near the end that were "chemical" in nature.</p>
<p>So I went with the one with more "natural" ingredients.</p>
<p><strong>How do you decide between two sub-par foods, when you have to choose?</strong> (Please don't say "I don't pick either" as that doesn't really contribute to discussion) :)</p>

<p>I'm 26, female, I currently weigh 198 and I want to lose about 40 pounds. On standard american "diet" I was eating anywhere from 1500 - 1800 calories daily (or trying to, but mostly overeating it) and losing weight (if at all) only because I was working out as much as possible.</p>
<p>Since the paleo diet is heavily based in meat and fat instead of carbs (and veggies have low carbs but very very few calories) I'm coming up across an issue that I have a hard time dealing with.</p>
<p>My calorie count is going to be tremendous with all this fat, but I won't be eating that much food.</p>
<p>Because I'm attempting to lose weight, I don't plan on eating starchy veg at all, so no potatoes, beans, peanuts, sugars - and I'm sort of borderline unsure what to do about dairy (such as cream, etc). Aiming for under 50g carbs, but there's no guidelines anywhere for calories (and since most diet websites assume you're getting a lot of grains, etc, I feel that the "recommended calories" on there are not going to be correct with the amount of fat that I'm eating)</p>
<p>I've been doing almond milk / protien powder for breakfast this week but I'm planning on eating eggs & avocado for breakfast and adding coconut oil in there more often. Sardines or chicken & veggies for lunch, most likely some form of meat for dinner (lamb, chicken, pork, beef roast). But I'm already topping 1500 calories... I can't fathom I'd LOSE WEIGHT eating 2000+ calories daily.</p>

<p>My boyfriend and I went Paleo at the same time, and he either gave up or just.. I don't know but he's ordering pizzas and we have bread in the house again and its driving me mad. I already eat too much, but with all the cookies and candy and crap coming to work now too it is very very very hard to do anything right.</p>
<p>It feels physically <em>wrong</em> if someone is eating and I am not doing the same so I can't skip dinner and if someone brings treats to work its really hard to say no. If we go out to a restaurant, even if I say "I'm not going to have that bread" I usually eat a piece anyway.</p>
<p>I think I'm heavier now than when I started. I haven't been to the gym in months. My commute is killing me. I still only get about 6 hours of sleep per night. It's going to start snowing soon so going outside is even less of a possibility.</p>
<p>How do you do it when you don't have support? Because he totally is not helping and its making me miserable and fat.</p>

My favorite is just going on long walks, but that isn't possible with my current schedule.</p>
<p>I've started doing an every-other-day routine with body weight exercises and some light cardio for a warmup (jumping jacks, climbing the stairs and running down, etc). There's a program called 100-pushups, and I'm doing that since I can only do about 4 of them right now. You do a set amount each set and then rest for 60 seconds in between for about 4 sets. Instead of resting, I'm doing lunges and squats. The cardio takes about 10 minutes and the pushups/lunges/squats take about 5-7 minutes more and let me tell you I AM BEAT by the end of it.</p>
<p>Now if only I could stop stuffing my face with crap.</p>

<p>I started Paleo at 199 and was happy to get down to 190 before everything just came to a grinding halt.</p>
<p>Today I got on the scale and it read 194.4 and 40.7% body fat. FOURTY POINT SEVEN! God I'm a lard ball.</p>
<p>Weird thing is though, that I LOOK thinner, and I feel thinner, and people at work have been commenting that I'm losing weight.</p>

She taught me how to make the green papaya salad and I have a feeling that its very healthy (similar to kimchee I think just not fermented?) as the only ingredients are the green papaya, tomato, carrot, and some anchovy sauce, along with hot peppers. Traditionally, it also contains sugar, but I can see easily replacing that with artificial sweetner. I could seriously eat this stuff every meal and not get sick of it.</p>

<li>No bread, no milk.</li>
<li>Gym time is limited due to house hunting in the evenings.</li>
<li>Lowered intake from 1800 to 1600 calories to try and beat plateau. No change.</li>

<p>It's just bouncing between 186 and 189 or even higher. Body fat isn't changing either. 185 said it was 37% body fat, but on days where its 189 it can be as high as 40, which is <em>really</em> encouraging, let me tell you.</p>
<p>HOW CAN I GET OUT OF THIS PLATEAU!? BTW, 26 year old female with absolutely no desire to look like a body-builder. I just want to look like a victoria secret model and not have to starve myself to get there.</p>

It's extremely easy to overcook things in an instant or dry up the moisture to the point that you're eating shoe leather.
Eggs are a pretty good example of this. Really easy to overdo it in a microwave.</p>
<p>Microwaves act on the water in the food, they do not "irradiate" your food. There is no danger, unless you're using a microwave in which the shielding has been breached - in which case it would not function properly for very long anyway.</p>

To cut sugar cravings at home I've been literally eating mouthfuls of butter. And I AM the cook. My issue there is that I eat (well.. everywhere) until I burst. Stomach says its full but hand keeps moving.
But we make a regular habit of eating out at least once a week and once on the weekends. And I'm being very very bad about eating out for lunch @ work. When I <i>remember</i> to bring something from home I usually don't feel like eating it when the time comes.
