Just contact your local <a href="http://www.llli.org/" rel="nofollow">Le Leche League</a> for the "how tos" and a wonderful support network. They may even have women willing to donate milk for you. My mom donated milk to them for moms that wanted breast milk and she had nothing but WONDERFUL things to say about them.</p>

<p><strong>Acupuncture</strong> - 3000 hours of intense <em>"Masters" level clinical and classroom training.</em></p>
<p>While I do think there are many chiros who do study and may *eventually become proficient in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) techniques, I would not trust either a PT or Chiro to understand the variety of tools available in Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM). Good TEAM practitioners (L.Ac, Ayervedic, etc.) continue to study as mastery comes at the +20 year point, not 100 hours.</p>
<p>TCM is a consolidated view of TEAM, produced by the Chinese government in the 1950s and does not include all the tools associated with TEAM techniques. It is also known as "battlefield" medicine as it is symptoms based and designed to be used in emergency situations, rather than as an ongoing health care program.</p>
<p>Community acupuncture has it's place, but is not as powerful, therefore the lower price. If you don't mind being in a room filled with others receiving treatment (and discussing your issues where they may hear) go ahead and use Community Acupuncture. There is nothing wrong with getting the benefit from Community Acupuncture, just don't expect it to work as quickly/efficiently.</p>
<p>For those interested in the deep and meaningful treatment using needles and herbs, please seek out a practitioner who has studied various "Classics", which date back in the thousands of years and use integrated diagnostics.</p>

[subtitle: how to open a dunkin' donuts franchise and not go to Paleo hell]Marie2012-08-26T12:50:52Z2012-08-26T12:50:52Z<p>There are better long term investments than DD, especially if you plan to have time for your family. I'd suggest real estate (mid market rentals) as interest rates are set to increase in about a year and that puts upward pressure on rents. (I used be a retail real estate strategist for some big brands...and then made a lot of money investing at the top of the market. Yes, you read that correctly - I beat the market by targeting an under-served segment.)</p>
<p>Plus VA loans can be very helpful when it comes to getting started in real estate :) </p>
<p>Do some research into "Post War Economics" to see what economic trends we'll be facing in the next 20 years.</p>
<p>And if you do decide to go the DD route, be very careful about the location you choose. Retail IS all about real estate and you'll need to look at the demographic trends in that area with a microscope. </p>

<p>If you plan to be a raw feeder, please read all the philosophies. I've learned so much about keeping my boy healthy from studying evolutionary nutrition.</p>
<p>And given the AVMA's new political move regarding feeding raw, I'd say stick to your gut as your clients will be MUCH more loyal to a vet who sincerely wants the best for them.</p>
<p>EDITED to add: We recently let our dog go, probably due to a spinal cancer as the decline was shockingly quick. In the 4 day process to try to figure out what was wrong, we also discovered that he was "at least 15". I'd aged him at about 13, having had him for 7 years, as he was graying when he arrived. Given his vet kept arguing that he was 9ish, he looked DAMN good for his age, especially since he was probably 50% Boxer. To have Boxer genes last this long is almost unheard of as they are notoriously attacked by cancer during midlife.</p>
<p><em>I would not be surprised if his ketogenic, heavy in Omega 3s, all raw diet was responsible for keeping him alive for so long.</em> </p>

<p>I feel any discomfort is a message to reconsider what you've eaten in the previous 8 hours. The unfortunate thing about food allergies is they are so hard to track and identifying the source can take patience and a lot of thought. Just looking at the people on the street makes our health care problem very clear. Health care as we experience it today ISN'T WORKING! One of the MANY reasons is how BIGPharm has managed to squeeze MDs into a corner.
I want them to have power to heal. As it stands, they don't have the power to choose from ALL the available tools/technology as many of the solutions used prior to the 1960s don't have "evidence based medicine" (in the form of journal articles) standing behind them. Therefore, the MDs MUST choose new and more expensive "tools". My doctoral research is on the use of ancient medical technologies in a modern world, so I DO know quite a bit about how far we've fallen. I hope to use my doctorate to teach young MDs and MBAs how to successfully navigate the world of medical research to find appropriate usage for old and new methodologies. But, getting back to my original comment - you might want to read the book that I suggested as it is a GREAT summary of where we've gone wrong. He thinks I'm crazy thinking the increase in brain function was due to ketogenic metabolism.http://paleohacks.com/questions/188013/calorie-restriction-the-original-ketogenic-diet/188717#188717Comment by MarieMarie2013-03-31T16:41:00Z2013-03-31T16:41:00ZJust a quick question -re my dad's death this Fall. He had PD/Lewy Body, but had been swimming 3x wk for about 30mins until about a year ago. When he died in (wonderful) hospice care, it took 12 days!!! He was VERY conscious/aware/communicative for the first 7, aware for the next 3 (squeezing fingers, but eyes were closed), then unconscious for the last 2. I was shocked ANYONE could last so long with NO food or water, let alone an 80 y/o who could barely walk and had compromised chemistry due to 10 yrs of PD meds/lifestyle. Can you explain why someone can last so long? (Given your theory?)http://paleohacks.com/questions/179853/why-is-vitamin-d-not-helping-meComment by MarieMarie2013-02-18T01:59:19Z2013-02-18T01:59:19ZI'm a recovering vegetarian, so eating liver was the "last" step in my Paleo conversion. It was a tough step. HOWEVER.... it has made AMAZING differences in my skin, hormones, and mental clarity. I eat about a fist size of Liver a week and will continue to do so! (Soak it in milk overnight and cook with onions and a little cinnamon to make it sweet.)http://paleohacks.com/questions/179853/why-is-vitamin-d-not-helping-meComment by MarieMarie2013-02-17T04:38:52Z2013-02-17T04:38:52ZNo I'm not being sarcastic. I routinely take 50K 3x when I feel a cold coming on and average 10-20K/day through the Winter because I'm extremely sensitive to seasonal disorder. Your levels are extremely low and you need to go after that issue ASAP.http://paleohacks.com/questions/179853/why-is-vitamin-d-not-helping-meComment by MarieMarie2013-02-17T00:31:53Z2013-02-17T00:31:53ZBump it up to 50K for 3 days straight, then down to 20K for the next 2 months and let me know if you still feel it is doing nothing...http://paleohacks.com/questions/97929/studies-about-dog-food-and-dog-healthComment by MarieMarie2013-02-04T18:15:21Z2013-02-04T18:15:21ZDan, Grass is actually for probiotics. Next to nothing is digested as most dog owners will attest to pulling "stringers" out of their dog's butt after they've gone grazing. I did feed sweet potatoes, but for poo consistency rather than nutritional reasons. Like pumpkin, Sweet Potatoes firm up runny poo. So, on the "fast day" when I fed back-to-back Green Tripe meals, I'd add 1/2c Sweet Potatoes.http://paleohacks.com/questions/97929/studies-about-dog-food-and-dog-healthComment by MarieMarie2013-02-04T13:29:14Z2013-02-04T13:29:14ZPrey Model IS Low Carb. I fed my dog low carb for the majority of his 8 years with us. (He died in June and we were shocked to discover he was ~15 years old. Very old for a Boxer mix!!) I am convinced that the low carb model kept him alive much longer than "normal" kibble as he was in terrible shape when we adopted him. We'd estimated his age at 12 years, but his vet scratched through that date and subtracted 3 years, meaning she thought he was 6 years YOUNGER than is actual age.
His vet is now feeding her dogs a Prey Model diet... Sometimes seeing is believing.
