I wouldn't just assume that's an option.

I don't know how old you are, but I started working at the age of 14, and by the time I was 18 I'd had several different jobs. Most of them were food service, but I did work doing telephone surveys once. Other friends around my age at that time worked at plant nurseries, potting plants or stocking shelves. You could always be a bagger at a grocery store (if they have baggers in your area). I knew other teenagers who worked doing labor or light office work for their parents' business or for the parents of a friend. I even had one friend who worked at a cookie factory, though she was 17, so a little bit older than the rest of us.

Applying for and interviewing for jobs is work, and that's true no matter how old you are. You have to be persistent, deal with a lot of rejection, and really get good at being charming and selling yourself. And by the way, young people like yourself, who can seem so quick and bright and alive compared to folks in middle age, can be very impressive!
http://paleohacks.com/questions/74952/should-i-go-dairy-free/75167#75167 Answer by sam for Should I go dairy free? sam 2011-11-06T02:34:36Z 2011-11-06T02:34:36Z
If I were you I'd try going dairy free for a little why, just to see what happens. You might find that you feel better without it, or maybe you'll end up feeling worse, or maybe you won't notice any difference at all. If you're like me you'll find that in some ways your body works better without dairy and in some ways it works worse. No matter what happens though you'll still get interesting and potentially valuable information about your body and what works for it and what doesn't.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/4349/fish-oil-and-fatigue/66100#66100 Answer by sam for Fish oil and fatigue? sam 2011-09-19T23:07:40Z 2011-09-19T23:07:40Z
Maybe your fatigue is a result of a slightly compromised immune system? There was a question posted here on paleohacks not long ago that addressed that issue:

http://paleohacks.com/questions/2091/is-fish-oil-immunosuppressive#axzz1YIQowK39

I don't get fatigued when I'm taking cod liver and fish oil regularly. In fact I get really manic and stressed out. I also notice coming down with colds when I'm taking those supplements regularly, which is something that almost never happens otherwise. I personally feel much better when I just make a habit of eating a little bit of oily fish every day. I get all the nice mood effects of the omega 3's and vitamin D, without the negative feelings I get with fish oil. Plus I get to eat lots of salmon, which I like.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/62257/who-has-experience-with-using-fruit-as-main-source-of-carbs Who has experience with using fruit as main source of carbs? sam 2011-09-02T07:44:27Z 2011-09-02T13:19:38Z
My first introduction to paleo was through the work of Loren Cordain, who from what I remember advocated eating as much fruit as one liked as part of a plaeo diet, instead of grains or tubers. I'm guessing that wasn't the most popular idea, because the paleo resources I read online (like paleohacks) never seem to mention that approach. I'm going to go ahead and just try it myself, because I want to see if removing grains helps my digestive system work better. I don't really like the taste of potatoes and sweet potatoes, and my body doesn't seem to react very well to lc and vlc diets, so eating plenty of fruit seems like a reasonable choice.

My question is whether anyone out there has had experience with this fruit heavy variant of paleo, and if so how did it work out? What problems did it solve for you? What problems did it create? I'm looking for personal experiences from people who have actually tried it. My own health goals are to have more consistent energy, more balanced mood, and a better working digestive system. At the end of the day my decision to stick with this diet or not will be based on how it affects me personally, but if there is anyone out there who has tried using fruit as their main source of carbs and who has any advice, encouragements, or warnings for me then I'd really appreciate it.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/58569/gluten-splitting-enzymes-your-thoughts/58609#58609 Answer by sam for Gluten-splitting enzymes - Your thoughts? sam 2011-08-16T14:37:45Z 2011-08-16T14:37:45Z
I have celiac disease, and if some enzyme could enable me to eat a piece of toast now and again without experiencing debilitating back pain and explosive diarhea (the specific ways celiac expresses itself in my particular case) then you better believe I'd be taking that enzyme! I wouldn't worry about that enzyme destroying my body's ability to digest wheat, because I lack the ability to do that in the first place. And If I did have that ability then I wouldn't bother taking the enzyme.
http://paleohacks.com/questions/78213/why-are-so-many-obsessed-with-longevity/78238#78238 Comment by sam sam 2011-11-20T01:21:38Z 2011-11-20T01:21:38Z I'm also afraid of death. http://paleohacks.com/questions/76616/represent-sad-or-poverty/76634#76634 Comment by sam sam 2011-11-12T06:54:56Z 2011-11-12T06:54:56Z I'm sorry, but this mother isn't being a 'tough task-master', she's being negligent. She doesn't have to provide anything for her child other than money for food, and even that she's trying to wriggle out of. Kenzie, you are in a very unfortunate situation where your parents are either unable or unwilling to fulfil their responsibilities and provide for your basic needs. You should be worrying about graduting high school right now, not worrying about where your next meal is coming from. The folks who work at the welfare office will understand that and see your situation for what it is. http://paleohacks.com/questions/76616/represent-sad-or-poverty/76634#76634 Comment by sam sam 2011-11-12T06:35:40Z 2011-11-12T06:35:40Z If you're a minor and your mother is threatening to cut off your food supply then I'd go to the state welfare office and see if you can get foodstamps. Seriously, situations like this are exactly what social services are there for. http://paleohacks.com/questions/67625/should-i-throw-out-entire-hunk-of-meat-because-some-of-it-was-spoiled Comment by sam sam 2011-09-28T16:42:44Z 2011-09-28T16:42:44Z If i were you I'd go ahead and cook the meat in a simple way without seasoning and see how it smells and tastes then. That's what I do when I'm not sure if some meat is good or bad. Sometimes I end up eating it, and sometimes I end up throwing it away. http://paleohacks.com/questions/66066/which-food-properties-can-be-measured-with-amateur-equipment Comment by sam sam 2011-09-19T22:50:35Z 2011-09-19T22:50:35Z I bet there's an untapped market for products that do exactly what you're talking about. http://paleohacks.com/questions/65626/low-fat-milk-for-15-month-old/65661#65661 Comment by sam sam 2011-09-18T16:39:03Z 2011-09-18T16:39:03Z It does sort of sound like the doctor is advising making the kid less healthy so he stops thriving so darn much, lol. http://paleohacks.com/questions/65626/low-fat-milk-for-15-month-old Comment by sam sam 2011-09-18T16:37:56Z 2011-09-18T16:37:56Z @Paleo Mom, have you yourself seen this kid in person? I can usually eat about half of one average sized pancake before I'm too full to continue. Strange, because I can't think of any other carb that fills me up like that. http://paleohacks.com/questions/64343/is-there-a-relationship-between-eating-not-eating-meat-and-ones-mental-well-bein/64375#64375 Comment by sam sam 2011-09-13T12:04:21Z 2011-09-13T12:04:21Z yeah, expectations are important...i wonder how many folks feel better on paleo for just exactly the same reason? http://paleohacks.com/questions/62627/food-simplicity-does-everyone-cook-bake-complicated-paleo-dishes/62761#62761 Comment by sam sam 2011-09-04T21:06:33Z 2011-09-04T21:06:33Z +1 for feeling like a mad scientist in the kitchen, lol. http://paleohacks.com/questions/62280/how-much-fruit-do-people-eat/62352#62352 Comment by sam sam 2011-09-03T03:03:02Z 2011-09-03T03:03:02Z That's interesting. Was eating lots of fruits and veggies an improvment over eating grains, or was it about the same? http://paleohacks.com/questions/62257/who-has-experience-with-using-fruit-as-main-source-of-carbs/62263#62263 Comment by sam sam 2011-09-03T02:52:30Z 2011-09-03T02:52:30Z I live in central ohio where we have pears, apples, peaches, and melons in season right now. Do you eat grains at all? Rice? It's encouraging to know that at least one person has good digestion while still eating fruit. http://paleohacks.com/questions/62257/who-has-experience-with-using-fruit-as-main-source-of-carbs/62261#62261 Comment by sam sam 2011-09-03T02:42:43Z 2011-09-03T02:42:43Z So you actually lost weight when you increased your carb intake. I wonder if other folks have had that same experience. Interesting how one person to the next can respond to carbs so differently.
