Foul Smelling Burps?

I just tried to do the potato diet for 3 days, and now am having to stop due to painful cramps, etc. I think the food has fermented in my stomach or something because I keep belching (a horrible smell), my stomach hurts, and my stools are not consistent. I am now worried I have SIBO, but can't afford the test, so I am going to try and follow GAPS. But eating only meats, veggies, healthy fats, and homemade yoghurt/fermented veggies while trying to lose weight. I'm hoping after a while the symptoms will clear, but is there a way to stop my discomfort right now? And does this mean I have to stay away from all starches for my life-time basically? Could this be SIBO? or what heck is wrong?

i don't know why you're eating potatoes if your diet is paleo. i think it would be good to ditch that stupid diet and actually follow the principles of paleo. i'm sure bone broths and fermented foods would help get your gut in balance again from all that starch.

It could be gastritis. I'd get some HCI tablets and take two to three with meals and see how you feel.

PepzinGI is also a great product. I've been using both HCI and PepzinGI for weeks now and my stomach is much, much better. Gastritis sucks big time.

In the meantime, peppermint tea is great for stomach upset, as is ginger tea, if you can tolerate it. I like strong brewed liquorice root tea as well. Or take it in powder form with some water on an empty stomach.
