I think you get over cravings and detox faster if you do it entirely. Check out Whole30 - it's a great approach to get started.

I didn't experience headaches either when I transitioned. I think the hardest thing for me was getting rid of grains, but that quickly became easy because I felt so much better so quickly. My skin started to clear up, the awful stomach cramps... (more)

Eat some carbs and don't go cold-turkey straight into paleo, ease in. Goes against nearly every guru/blog/book out there, but changing one's diet should not be done quickly, unless you enjoy digestive upset and general malaise.
