How often do you eat the following?

by (10653)
Updated September 16, 2014 at 7:34 PM
Created November 24, 2011 at 2:14 AM

-nuts/nut butter
-dark chocolate
-grain-fed meat
-chicken/turkey
-high sugar fruits (e.g. mangoes, bananas)
-nightshades
-safe starches (e.g. white rice, sweet potatoes)
-alcohol
-full-fat dairy

For me, it's:
-nuts/nut butter--occasionally, like maybe a few times a month; mostly macadamia nuts and almonds; very rarely do I eat walnuts
-dark chocolate--MY NEW ADDICTION; I love Green & Black's 85%! Trying to cut down to a few squares a week
-grain-fed meat--several times a week; can't always afford grass-fed
-chicken/turkey--maybe once or twice a month; honestly, chicken/turkey has no flavor to me; plus the n6 PUFAs...
-high sugar fruits--rarely; maybe a banana once a month
-nightshades--pretty much every day; I love onions and tomatoes and peppers
-safe starches--very rarely to never at all; I'm having sweet potatoes for the first time in months tomorrow for Thanksgiving
-alcohol--pretty rare; maybe once or twice a month when I'm out with friends
-full-fat dairy--a few times a month; mostly full-fat yogurt; but I do eat ghee often

By "whenever I can" were you talking about grass-fed beef? Grain-fed is the stuff from big-box stores.

Yeah, adding cocoa powder to coconut also prevents the oil slick at the top effect of coconut oil in black coffee. I guess it gets emulsified.

-nuts/nut butter: every night. Maybe 1-2 ounces cashews, hazel, macadamia

-dark chocolate: every night

-grain-fed meat: beef? Maybe once per week

-chicken/turkey: maybe 4-5x week

-high sugar fruits (e.g. mangoes, bananas): never

-nightshades: maybe daily since I use hot pepper for spice daily

-safe starches (e.g. white rice, sweet potatoes): twice daily. Every meal.

-alcohol: never unless there's a party

-full-fat dairy: never

  • Nuts/nut butter: Small amount daily, a few walnuts. No nut butter.
  • Dark chocolate: Almost daily, 1-2 squares, 85% cocoa (my usual "dessert", with an espresso)
  • Grain-fed meat: Difficult to say as most lamb/beef is mostly grass-fed in UK - I would say 2-3 times per week.
  • Chicken/turkey: Turkey is a waste of oxygen as far as I'm concerned, dry and tasteless. Eat chicken once or twice a week.
  • High sugar fruits: Rarely, once a week at most.
  • Nightshades: 2-3 times a week, tomatoes or peppers. Cutting out nightshades seems weird to me as they are delicious and appealing fruits that surely would have been eaten by cavemen? But looked into it that much.
  • Safe starches: Very rarely, probably rice due to social eating once a month. I think I get enough carbs from fruit and veg so don't choose to add in any starches at home.
  • Alcohol: 3-4 times a week. Mostly gin and tonic or red wine, an occasional beer.
  • Full-fat dairy: Daily. 3 large tablespoons of FF greek yoghurt for breakfast with berries, walnuts and cocoa nibs. Yum.

-nuts/nut butter- Once a month. I never buy it but my wife does.

-dark chocolate- Every other day, 90% or higher. I treat it like a vitamin.

-grain-fed meat- 2-3 times a week.

-chicken/turkey- 1-2 times a week.

-high sugar fruits (e.g. mangoes, bananas)- only if my wife uses it for "Dessert", maybe twice a month.

-nightshades- often. Ebbs and flows, if I could it would be every meal because I tolerate them all just fine.

-safe starches (e.g. white rice, sweet potatoes)- once a day, typically saved for dinner so that any insulin spikes and hunger pangs are negligible. Or, PWO.

-alcohol- 1-2 times per week during football season. :)

-full-fat dairy- Daily heavy cream with coffee. Like Harris, I LOVE Rice Crispies with Heavy Cream for dessert about 2x/week. Pastured butter as often as possible.

-nuts/nut butter: never.
-dark chocolate: almost never.
-grain-fed meat: never; I rather not eat if it's not grass-fed.
-chicken/turkey: chicken- never; turkey bacons one pack a week.
-high sugar fruits (e.g. mangoes, bananas): banana- never; mango - 2-3 a month -nightshades: never.
-safe starches (e.g. white rice, sweet potatoes) : GF rice flour based breads and Fingering potatoes- few times a week. And the two are the only kinds of starches I consume. I never eat rice as a grain.
-alcohol: my downfall.........
-full-fat dairy: in tea or coffee; grass-fed butter.

-nuts/nut butter - rarely, maybe a teaspoon of nutella every 1-2 days. I used to do more nuts, but weary of it due to n6 PUFAs. Maybe if Costco starts carrying macadamias again...

-dark chocolate - used to eat it daily started at 70%, went very quickly to 99% then 100% baking chocolate (I know, sounds gross, but you get used to it very quickly after you try the 99% Lindt), now I just do cocoa powder + coconut oil in coffee.

-grain-fed meat - 2-3x a week. Usually the 85/15 organic ground beef from Costco which I suspect isn't grass fed. Sometimes ham steak, or pork ribs.

-chicken/turkey - less than 1x a week due to n6 PUFAs

-high sugar fruits (e.g. mangoes, bananas) - very rare.

-nightshades - small amount of campari tomatoes in salad - maybe 4-5x a week.

-safe starches (e.g. white rice, sweet potatoes) - 1/2 cup of sweet potato about 1-1.5hrs after a big workout.

-alcohol - 2-3x a week. Usually tequila or scotch neat, sometimes red wine (only 1 drink at a time with dinner.) Sometimes I have about 1/4 cup of Pom + lime juice with the tequila instead of neat.

-full-fat dairy - very rare (get acid reflux from it if I over do it) recently had cheese from raw milk without any ill effects. A few weeks ago, had some heavy cream in coffee, but not much.

Nightshades: Sriracha daily, others rarely

-nuts/nut butter every few days, and just a bit (like a few nuts). Usually brazil nuts, but occasionally almonds.

-dark chocolate Maybe a small bit every two weeks? Sometimes only once a month? I only use bakers choco though. Unless it's a 99% bar, but I haven't found one in a long time...

-grain-fed meat almost every day. I'm on a budget, and can't exactly afford the better stuff now. :( Mostly beef in various forms.

-chicken/turkey Never

-high sugar fruits (e.g. mangoes, bananas) Once a week? Or less.

-nightshades Almost every day. Especially tomatoes. But I also love peppers.

-safe starches (e.g. white rice, sweet potatoes) Pretty much every day (rice or rice flour). Occasionally sweet potatoes.

-alcohol Anywhere from twice a month to no times a month? XD (usually vodka or gin. Sometimes white wine.)

-full-fat dairy Almost every day (mostly cheese, butter)

Wow, I must be dead of starvation. Never touch any of that stuff. Well, chicken I guess, in the form of chicken liver and eggs, but I can't remember the last time I ate regular chicken meat. Got some thighs in the freezer, I'll probably make soup of them someday, but no urge for chicken anymore.

Now, if you hadn't prefaced red meat with "grain-fed", I could include myself among the living. Lotsa regular red meat, supplemented with fish oil. Can't afford grain-fed. Yeah, maybe that's why I'm dead.

Nuts daily, nut butter never, don't like it.

-dark chocolate

Daily, small pieces of 99% cocoa dark chocolate.

-grain-fed meat

Almost daily.

-chicken/turkey

A few times a week.

-high sugar fruits (e.g. mangoes, bananas)

Twice a week or so.

-nightshades

Four times a week or so.

-safe starches (e.g. white rice, sweet potatoes)

Almost never. I might have sweet potatoes if I go out to dinner, once a month or so.

-alcohol

Never.

-full-fat dairy

Daily. The question should not be "full fat" or not, in fact full fat is good for you. The question should have been if it's lactose-free or not, and preferably goat-based. So, I eat only lactose-free goat dairy (hard cheeses, home-made probiotic lactose-free yoghurt). From cows I only do butter and lactose-free sour cream. I don't drink animal milk.
