Does fructose lead to or have negative affect on leaky gut / adrenal fatigue?

I read an article where somebody was saying monosachirrides(single sugars e.g. fructose, glucose) are compatible with leaky gut as they require no digestion and pass straight through the gut wall. However I have also read many articles where people have said fructose is bad for/causes leaky gut and needs to be avoided. What do you think?

Also is fructose bad for adrenal fatigue? I would say probably because when I initially had adrenal fatigue every time I ate fruits I experienced slight pain on my adrenals.

I currently have a very bad leaky gut( cannot have any solid foods except for leafy greens). I was thinking of maybe getting some carb energy from honey since the greens are low carb/calories. However I am worried the honey will worse/aggravate leaky gut and adrenal fatigue.

What do you think?

I think you have misunderstood me. It wasn't the fruits which caused the adrenal fatigue it was stress. However after having developed the adrenal fatigue, I noticed that if I ate fruits my adrenals would feel slight pain.

Yes, I could have dextrose however if honey doesn't harm my adrenals or leaky gut, I would very much rather have that.

Which, to comment on your original question…contained a lot of fructose. Maybe it had something to do with liver glycogen being constantly full. I do not know much of the physiology, but I just know that it helped me…but I always combined the fruit sugar with protein, fat and salt.

Yes, it was stress. I subsequently developed leaky gut by not treating the adrenals, excessive caffeine and junk food.

Fructose seems to take longer to be absorbed in the small intestine despite it not needing to be digested. Also, there are situations of fructose malabsorption where the FODMAP diet or Fast Tract diet would be helpful for you.

Are you sure you had adrenal fatigue after ingesting fruits or was it digestive distress? I personally think, and have felt, that digestive distress is very closely linked to fatigue. (E.g. I could not tolerate coffee before I started Paleo-FODMAP-SCD, now I can tolerate it better than before).

If you are looking for something to replace the honey (which has fructose in it), consider dextrose (which is pure glucose); glucose gets absorbed very quickly (before it gets a chance to ferment in the small intestine like fructose) and will provide the energy that you need. Beware of blood-glucose levels though.

My source was undereating/overexercising…which is a source of stress in itself…but I found out the adrenal issues were subsequent to hypothyroid issues…in short…addition of carbs/salt made a big difference in helping me normalize and fix sleep. The carbs were mostly in the form of fruit.

What was the background leading up to your adrenal fatigue? Have you identified the cause?
