I haven't made a ready-mix powder like Primal Fuel, but I was making whey protein shakes with coconut milk long before Sisson came out with his product. The base is a scoop of pure whey protein isolate, a few ounces of canned coconut milk, and... (more)

I hear a lot of people exercise because of weight, and while that has in past been a challenge for me, I legitimately love endurance racing--running, biking, swimming--and competing in events. I love cardio because I love the way it makes me feel.... (more)

It is quite obvious why you cannot fuel your cardio workouts. Lack of CARBS. Don't buy into the low carb paleo dogma, eat more carbs if you exercise a lot. Sweet potatoes and bananas are not carb dense enough for lots of exercise, they are both... (more)

I don't think those things are toxic... esp compared to the real toxic crap-- like trans fats and metals. Maybe those do affect one as the fat is burned. Edited to add, if you are feeling that rough, then yeah I think something is wrong but I... (more)

We’ve all heard it time and time again – of the three macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates and fats) , our bodies prefer to burn carbs for energy. You can find that fact in medical textbooks, nutrition articles and just about anywhere else that... (more)

I don't find any of his arguments convincing. The reason we need fat and protein but not carbs is because carbs are soo important that our bodies can make The glucose from protein. I find that evidence of the importance of carbs, not evidence that... (more)

Just curious if it is possible for brain to function on ketones while leaving other parts of the body (e.g. muscles) consume glucose? For example, if one eats coconut oil as well as carbohydrates (not at the same time, of course!), will liver... (more)

If you go into ketosis, your muscle tissues become insulin resistant. This isn't a bad thing- glucose is being reserved for the brain. Of course, most doctors will scare the crap out of you and try to get you to take an oral glucose tolerance... (more)

It's been about 15 years since I did long distance hiking/biking but I can share what worked for me then. In my case, but I don't know if it's rare/common/universal, if I was fit enough to hike 10 or more miles I was already somewhat adapted to... (more)

I've been eating primal for the last several months, and I have no idea how to tell if I'm a "fat burning beast" or still just using sugars as fuel. Here's what my diet looked like today (I've already planned my dinner, so I've included that info... (more)

I don't agree that "everyone is different". When it comes to glucose, everyone is the same in that your brain needs about 100-120g a day to function properly. If you consume between 0 to 120g of carbohydrates, some of that energy requirement will... (more)

Pemmican is the obvious answer. If made with good pastured beef, it should give you all the nutrients you need. It has little to no water, so it shouldn't spoil and is light weight. One pound is ~2,945 calories. It is 50% fat by weight, so... (more)
