I developed GERD at the ripe old age of 18. I began experiencing chronic sore throats, which my MD at the time suggested was acid reflux, because I was in continual pain and had no signs of respiratory infection. I thought she was wrong, simply... (more)
I know this isn't the right procedure to make the diagnosis, but today when receiving an echocardiogram my doctor thought he may have seen a hital hernia. I just had an upperendoscopy a few months ago for reoccurring mild gastritis, but was told... (more)
So I guess I'm allergic to Milk, Wheat, Soy, Tomatoes, peanuts, peas, Shrimp, Tuna and corn. Along with some pollens. It seems I developed EoE from it, I don't have heartburn, at least I don't think I do. Sometimes I get a burning below my... (more)
Hello all. I am new here and am hoping that folks might have some advice for GERD. I've seen many other posts here on the subject, but I haven't seen anything yet on how to take a safe phased approach to addressing it. Like some other posters... (more)
So I've been Paleo for over two years and a few months ago started experiencing a lump type feeling in my throat (as if food were stuck). My neck around adams apple was also a bit tender. Saw my Dr. who did a thyroid test and I did have somewhat... (more)
So, I've been a long time reader of paleohacks, but this is my first question, and I've got a long backstory, apologies in advance... I developed stomach problems in college after a bout with a parasite (dientamoeba I think) and plenty of... (more)
Does anyone have any links to aritcles/websites which explain in detail what GAS really is. I'm in big pain with GERD for 5 years- have tried most natural things and read a lot. I have mainly heartburn and gas which seems to form in duodenum-... (more)
i have suffered from anxiety and panic attacks for the last two months, Now I randomly just started having bad acid reflux and chest pressure and bloating. I am on omeraprozole 20mg but does not seem to be working. I went to the e.r. last night... (more)
I've had acid reflux for 4+ years. It started after a course of antibiotics (doxycycline) for acne. I don't recall ever having a normal stool, yet lately I've ALWAYS been getting a rocky stool. I've had a rocky stool for quite a while. I've been... (more)
Long time lurker of paleohacks, I am not quite paleo, but have transitioned to meat-eating recently after years of happy vegetarianism. I have been a conscious eater for many years keeping my dairy and wheat levels low, and not discriminating... (more)
I get reflux and constipation after eating most anything. Like even a bowl of spinach. There doesn't seem to be a particular food that causes it. I'm not sure what's going on? I'm belching like crazy! Things that didn't work for me: -"Going... (more)
We've been Paleo for a few months now, after getting diagnosed with a wheat and corn allergy. However, for the past month, I've had awful discomfort behind my sternum and straight through to my back all day, every day. Needless to say, it's... (more)
I've found fermented foods, like kimchee or raw sauerkraut, to be helpful in eliminating GERD and settling my stomach - kinda settles the bacteria to good levels for me.
My father is a mess when it comes to his muscuolo-skeletal and digestive health. In other aspects of his life, though, he's in pretty good shape (heart function and cholesterol, etc tests). He's 6ft and currently 165-170lbs, but until his late... (more)
I'm back with another reflux question! When I drink water, I get reflux. I realize that I probably get reflux from being low acid and that drinking water dilutes my low stomach acid even more. I try not to drink with food and that helps, but I... (more)
Everyone on here (myself includes) seems to be under the impression that you should exercise. But, can exercise (especially intense, heavy lifting) cause GERD or aggravate symptoms? I ask because everything was going swimmingly with digestion up... (more)
Do you eat or drink just before you workout? I generally do my workouts fasted, having not eaten anything for 4-6 hours. I also try to limit my water intake for the 30-45 minutes before the workout too to make sure I don't have a stomach full of... (more)
Okay, so I originally came to bug the ever-loving hell out of PH for my GERD/IBS issues. Well, those issues are getting better it seems, but one issue that has not resolved is burping. I burp drinking water; I burp after eating; and sometimes burp... (more)
Burping after eating and drinking is perfectly natural, as we consume quite a bit of air every time we swallow (via our noses), which avoids creating a "vacuum" by stabilizing air pressure inside our heads. Plug your nose and swallow, and you'll... (more)
After 3 weeks of constant digestive, hypoglycemia and panic attacks that caused crushing cheat pain, dizziness, tingling, rapid heart beat lasting minimum 4 hours...I knew the paramedics by name. Every test was done for heart, diabetes,... (more)
Up until a week ago, I was using licorice extract for digestive issues. Turns out, SCD says it can cause digestive issues...and apparently it's a legume? Does any use DGL for digestive issues, or should I lay off this since it's apparently not... (more)
I am not familiar with how licorice impact the digestive tract, but I have read several studies showing that it dramatically lowers testosterone levels (up to 40 %), which is a pretty good reason for avoiding it.
From the literature it seems that almost all cases of GERD/acid reflux occur due to too little acid not too much. I think this is because the stomach needs to contain a certain amount of hydrochloric acid before it shuts the LES. Correct me if I'm... (more)
Stomach issues, me, yada yada yada! Question: When you're trying to recover proper stomach function how should you go about increasing the fat intake? I originally thought I didn't respond well to certain types of fat, but now I'm thinking that's... (more)
I'm still pretty new to paleo, but I think I've figured out where my stomach pains come from. I have a long history of GERD, with enough heartburn to knock out an elephant. I've taken PPI's for the last few years, though I've attempted to wean off... (more)
Looks like I lost. Trouble swallowing, food coming up, pressure in throat. I tried so hard to cure my GERD with diet, supplements, and herbs...but to no avail it seems (paleo for six months now). Now, I've no clue the damage I've done. I'm happy... (more)
The damage to your gut took longer than 6 months to occur. Healing may take years. Though this isn't a magic cure for all that ails ya, there is probably still quite a bit of damage to your gut, even after 6 months.
With any luck, Melissa from (HGL) can answer this one. Here's a current list of supplements I'm taking: Chelated Magnesium Wild Salmon Oil Licorce extract Probiotics Multi-vitamin B-vitamin complex Digestive enzymes Niacin Digestive Bitters HCL... (more)
Yikes. In my opinion that's just too much and makes it hard to ID what's even going on. WHy not try going off them and doing a very low carb diet? Also I'd ditch the HCL. It didn't help me very much. Have a protein rich breakfast of steak or some... (more)
So, yeah. I ask a lot of GERD questions on here. Mainly, because I want to get rid of this blasted thing. Here's the question: recent events have stressed me beyond reckoning (friends alienating me, school, several successive bad... (more)
How long have you been paleo? It took several months for my GERD symptoms to finally stop. I still have flareups if I cheat and eat a little too much dairy. I am pretty sure it would come back full force if I eat gains at all.
This question if for the paleo people out there. I was wondering if any of you had trouble swallowing with your GERD, and if that got better when it went away. I'm able to swallow, it just seems slightly more difficult than it should be. I was... (more)
