A good fraction of it is ALA, the omega-3 not given enough credit by paleo folks (because it's the plant-sourced omega-3).

My mum comes from a dairy farm in county cork. The cows are given pellets to eat as well as grass. The male cows were fed more grain to fatten them up to be sold as meat.

It might not be ideal, but it's pragmatic. If you simply can't afford grass-fed and pastured meat, then factory-farmed meat is still going to be better than a diet based on grains. I think Taubes is very much of the mind that we shouldn't let... (more)

You could go for the Irish approach - potatoes and milk. Add some free range eggs, sardines and occasional ground beef and liver and you're pretty much there. (Assuming you're ok with potatoes and dairy.)
