I had roughly similar symptoms and got relief with HCL tablets. But I discontinued this when I developed a duodenal ulcer. I then went to a GI specialist and got diagnosed with H. pylori. Within a couple of months after treatment (10 days of... (more)

Licorice (DGL) before meals is good. As for HCL, I suggest only trying it when you most need the extra acid ... like when eating a heavy meal loaded with fat. Otherwise don't inflame your stomach with unneeded HCL or enzymes. It sounds like you... (more)

Take liquorice root powder with a little water a few times a day. About half a teaspoon. If you do have h. pylori, it will help kill it off and keep it from getting worse. But definitely get tested for it!

Hello, I started the Paleo diet 6 weeks ago. I had already stopped taking diary products a month earlier, which eliminated my acid reflux. However, I get very bloated right after eating, and going Paleo has made no difference in this respect. My... (more)

One HCL capsule doesn't have that much acid really. If you take the capsule with food you should be okay. At worse it should give mild heartburn at the end of the meal. But perhaps what you're taking has some other ingredient not agreeing with... (more)

Betaine HCl (aka trimethylglycine) is a pretty strong organic acid. It's pKa is 1.83 so it's buffering range is around pH 1-3, pretty much the pH of human stomach contents. It most certainly will acidify if the pH is too high, but it cannot take... (more)
