I came across this study linking low-carb diets to cardiovascular disease in reading Robert Lustig's new book. http://mygreendiet.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/2286.pdf Thoughts? Henry (more)

This paper tells me that it's bad for a mice to consume high-fat, low-carb, high-protein diet. Well, I'm not a mice! Are you one?

The topic of the first hour of On Point this morning is sugar and its prevalence in the SAD. Dr. Lustig is one of the panelists, and is putting out good points and numbers about sugar and making recommendations as to what should be done. Do you... (more)

I heard the show. Didn't think Paleo listening to it though. Just yea or nea to taxing sugar.

http://youtu.be/SyLZRz5G3zA Seems likely. The lyrics are a bit antiquated, however, as most HFCS-laden treats are now sold by chain stores and not by sole proprietors.

This is probably not the smartest topic for my first question but... I recently came across this video from a 5 part special where a CBS San Francisco reporter tracked her amazing results by going Paleo over the course of several weeks. Its a... (more)

Not sure I would call Lustig one of the "biggest figureheads in the Paleo movement." Yes, he was at AHS11 and yes, lots of us are intrigued by his research. My guess is his appearance on the CBS series was largely because he was local. That said,... (more)

Robert Lustigs' talk pissed me off the other day. I kept having flashbacks to him saying that fructose is basically "ethanol without the buzz." And then I read someone on this site saying, "My personal opinion is that there is no obesity without... (more)

Aragon says fructose is just dandy up to 100g a day. Ingest that much and report back with your TGs. NHANES doesn't tell you how much fructose the obese consume, it gives some mean or median. It's not the fructose that's bad, it's the uric... (more)

Lalonde's speech was humbling. But I have a serious concern: does he have black eyes?

I downvoted this question. Although Dr. Lustig is brilliant and I believe everyone should watch anything he is in, how can the "number of hits in 6 months" be a question on this site. So, for the sake of staying on topic I'd say 575,234,139... (more)

Let me preface this question by saying I'm a huge fan of fruit. I eat a fair amount on a daily basis to no apparent ill effect, and I think fruit has been shown to be healthy and safe. I always see this idea repeated: the fiber in fruit slows the... (more)

Well, I doubt there's a study that shows that it's specifically the fiber. But there are numerous studies that show that (within reason) eating fruit (they often call it "natural fructose" and I HATE hate term) is OK (and sometimes good) for you... (more)

After watching that video by Dr. Lustig "The Bitter Truth" and after being on this diet for about a month. It seems like I wonder if we are eating too much and don't know when to stop. Robb says to eat to satiety and no calorie counting or... (more)

Deanne--I've been a pain clinic patient for a while now, and also a paleo practitioner for a while. In that time, I've formulated some stupid theories about nutrition and pain. But here's one that makes sense with regards to fructose. Acute... (more)

Dr. Robert Lustig ("Sugar the Bitter Truth" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM ) was on the Livin'La Vida Lo-Carb show a few days ago and he stated there has been analysis on 50,000 year old human fecal matter that shows hunter gathers... (more)

I would've never made it as a hunter-gatherer, then. My digestive system cannot handle anything more than 10 grams of fiber without getting stopped up. Maybe my ancestors were Eskimo.

Perhaps there are some paleo people that have not yet seen Dr. Lustig's 1.5 hour lecture Sugar: The Bitter Truth http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM Grok only had access to fruit in the summer and fall on which it is presumed he gorged to... (more)

I have had a hard time when explaining to new-paleo folks that they need to take it easy on the fruit.. "but fruit is so natural and healthy!" ... it is but there's a caveat! A little anecdote I have come up with is: Look at what we (humans) have... (more)
