Your calorie total and macros look ok. I would swap fish for the whey protein - for simplicity a can of tuna, sardines or shrimp for each whey ration. Also start walking 1-2 hours a day. That should cut into the remaining weight better than... (more)

Okay so aside from the flood of answers I'll get about how carbs cause insulin issues and diabetes, and how fat is the most metabolically benign macronutrient, AND how I should stop obsessing over macro ratios... what do you think?... (more)

Just speaking for myself, when I eat carbs above about 125-150g per day it's like a switch to turn on the weight gain. Doesn't really matter if I'm exercising or not, it just starts to pack the weight around my waist. Recently I was working... (more)

I still see a lot of people obsessing over macro ratios. What do you think is a good baseline Paleo macro ratios? How far off of that do you think you can get while still being "paleo" because of the foods you're avoiding rather than those... (more)

I don't need to look up flawed studies ... I have seen it myself (and several others ) based on my own independent lab testing, pulse, body temp... High fat low carb diets were always at the bottom for improving health.. Even though I'm... (more)

When people are talking about their macro ratios are they typically talking by mass or by calorie? My guess is that people are generally talking by calorie but I haven't really seen that explicitly stated. And the issue of protein per X of body... (more)

When you see breakdown's of macros like "25 / 50 / 25" or "40 / 30 / 30" it is by calorie. How much protein to eat for your body mass is a tricky question. It can range from "Why are you tracking this at all?!" to a gram per pound of total body... (more)

I guess it depends what your goal is. Ideally you want to count your proteins in grams (IMO), carbs and fats are just a see-saw so it really doesn't matter as far as weight in grams go, unless you're trying to maintain something like ketosis. (more)

How important are they? Any agreement here on optimal general parameters?

As long as protein meets requirements then I don't think macronutrients matter much; I think VLC or VLF aren't the best way to go. Myself, I eat around 60% fat, 20% carbs and 20% protein but it can vary.

I would actually start to monitor your current caloric intake, on which your weight is stable. Then I'd reduce it with 250-300 kcal a day. That would as long as you're hormonally balanced make you loose 0,5-1 pound a week. I'd stick on that... (more)
