I have read several places online that if you do not tolerate sulfur foods that you need to be careful with folic acid supplementation.   Can someone summarize what that issue is?   I am heterozygous for C677T, which I understand... (more)

Hi, I just got my 23andme results back and need some help understanding what the heck I can do... 1. I have a CBS mutation, which is confusing. On one hand, I have always had joint pain & stiffness, so I'm not surprised that I have a sulfur... (more)

You might want to run these through promethease instead, they (usually) tend to provide better descriptions. You could also just go to snpedia.com, this is where promethease gets its descriptions from. Just search for the red SNPs:... (more)

What is the easiest way to figure out the minimal effective dose of supplementation and dietary change to adjust for the following genetics? It seems that I have minor defects, but nothing serious. All other things being equal, I would love to... (more)

That looks like a great methylation panel to me. A66G is your only red mark, where that's a fairly mild mutation. A1298C is fairly mild as well, and you're hetero there. You could maybe eat some more seafood and veg (beets / spinach.) I would be... (more)

I'v spent an enormous amount of time and read all kinds of theoretical info about methylation causing excess sulfur and ammonia. Does anyone here have that issue or is this all ivory tower theoretical stuff? Ever since going paleo and... (more)

I've seen a few questions and answers touch on this, but I'm curious: Has anyone been treated for hetero- or homozygous methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR, aka "Motherf***er) enzyme deficiency? If so, what symptoms were you having... (more)

I love that you call it the Motherf***er enzyme, too. When I talk about it, that's always what I say. Because it really is a mother f*er. I found out that I'm hetero for the C677T mutation with a 23andme analysis. I started supplementing with... (more)

I just started taking Sam-e today, along with methylcobalamin. I am taking 200 mg, will soon take 400 mg. How long does it take to increase neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine on this stuff?
