How hard was it for grok to get into a coconut? Should we treat coconut meat/butter similar to that of other nuts? The challenge of harvesting the edible portion is so great but worth the nutritional density.
Has anyone tried using avocado as a substitute for nut butters in baking with any success? We have salicylate allergies which includes all nuts and sunflower seeds . I am also after a good subby for almond flour also please .
My 3 year old nephew was just diagnosed today with having allergy to tree nuts - he had a reaction to pecans and the allergist said that subsequent reactions would be even worse ( peanuts are fine though ) So my sis had to get him a $100 epipen... (more)
Hello there! Milk: I have been mildly lactose intolerant since I was a toddler - my mother had to switch me to soy formula due to breastfeeding issues when I was young. I can have milk/yogurt/ice-cream and then have some stomach issues for the... (more)

Those of you who have a coconut/nut intolerance, what are the symptoms that led you to this conclusion? A few months ago I noticed that any time I have a meal large in coconut product I get bloated and have uncomfortable stomach issues. I've also... (more)
I have a jar of Jarrow Coconut Oil. Its says on label to refrigerate after opening. I need an answer whether I have to follow through with this suggestion. Are their brands that you don't have to refrigerate? Very cofusing from what I read about... (more)
Nope, I don't refrigerate. I've stuck it in there in the past and it gets too hard. I actually prefer my coconut oil be liquid and most of the time it is. My indoor temperature is almost always 80+F.
I have family members that are allergic to Paleo staples-all nuts, coconuts (even the oil), most seeds (like sunflower), eggs, & avocado. For the most part we just eat meat, fruit, & veggies but sometimes a cake, wrap, or cookies are... (more)
Does anyone know what the phytic acid content of macadamias is? I have been looking everywhere but I haven't found a thing. They are the only nut that doesn't seem to give me any digestive issues at all.
While sesame seed bran is removed in making tahini (thus presumably some of the bad stuff like phytic acid), it is still fairly high in omega 6 PUFA: ~3.5g/tablespoon. But with that PUFA comes some vitamins and minerals too. So no, tahini is not... (more)
Does anyone the trick to making homemade nut flour/meal? Every time I try it comes out too moist-like one big nut ball? Which isn't too bad for eating straight but it is NOT flour/meal consistency. I have tried different type of nuts &... (more)
I see so many recipes that I'd love to try that have almond flour as an ingredient. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to almonds, but not other nuts. I did see a posting on coconut flour here, but it wasn't too encouraging. Does anyone have an... (more)
I have seen a lot of questions circulating about nuts, particularly macadamias. I apologize if this has been asked already, but if I were to buy a years worth of of macadamias (pretty much only nut I eat) in bulk online (I calculate that to be 7... (more)

I like Trader Joe's CA Estate EVOO. I think it's about 6 bucks and extremely flavorful with a spicy backbite that's indicative of high polyphenols. Good stuff.
I'm very active but am trying to lean out. I'm trying to experiment with dropping all nuts from my diet as I think they may be stalling my progress. I need snacks that are easy to eat, relatively quiet, not super expensive and won't give me... (more)
O.K. so I've been cutting wheat gluten out of my diet for just coming up a month and have lost 15 lbs., my concern is that the book recommends introducing things like almonds etc to replace the wheat. I find that doing this gives me chronic... (more)
I have been on the Paleo diet for 5 months, without any cheating. In order to maintain the 2,400 calories a day I need to stay healthy, I'm eating meat three times a day, lots of fresh veges, and limited fruits. However, I'm still not able to eat... (more)
Personally I think you would be better off upping the carb content of your diet to reach your cal needs. Nut based paleo baked goods should be a treat food imo as they aren't necessarily that healthy.
