Yes, gooey ripe avocados are an excellent sub for nut butter, and easier to digest for most. Another workable alternative is skinned and mashed sweet potato with added cocooil or tahini if you can do sesame My go to loaf recipe: 1/2 c Coconut... (more)

I'm having similar symptoms when I eat coconut milk and meat, it feels the way it does in my gut when I eat grains, just kinda yucky and bloated. I'm looking for information too! I'm doing GAPS so it sucks not to be able to have it for variety! (more)

Does anyone know what the phytic acid content of macadamias is? I have been looking everywhere but I haven't found a thing. They are the only nut that doesn't seem to give me any digestive issues at all.

I spent a bit of time searching for this information as macadamia are abundant and cheap where I'm from. From the abstract of this study: Populations whose dietary staples consist primarily of foods of plant seeds origin, such as beans, maize,... (more)

While sesame seed bran is removed in making tahini (thus presumably some of the bad stuff like phytic acid), it is still fairly high in omega 6 PUFA: ~3.5g/tablespoon. But with that PUFA comes some vitamins and minerals too. So no, tahini is not... (more)

I see so many recipes that I'd love to try that have almond flour as an ingredient. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to almonds, but not other nuts. I did see a posting on coconut flour here, but it wasn't too encouraging. Does anyone have an... (more)

Folks cooking with nut flours is really not ideal. If you bake with almond flour or pecan flour at 350 for 20 minutes, you are baking tiny little broken pieces of almonds or pecans at 350 for 20 minutes. Get it? That nut flour is not impervious... (more)

I'm pretty sure that if you stored them in your freezer (tightly sealed, to prevent that awful freezer taste) they would keep and not go rancid over the course of a year. Meh, macadamia nuts are about 12.50$ a pound where I am (dry roasted). I'm... (more)

I like Trader Joe's CA Estate EVOO. I think it's about 6 bucks and extremely flavorful with a spicy backbite that's indicative of high polyphenols. Good stuff.

How hard was it for grok to get into a coconut? Should we treat coconut meat/butter similar to that of other nuts? The challenge of harvesting the edible portion is so great but worth the nutritional density.

Nope, I don't refrigerate. I've stuck it in there in the past and it gets too hard. I actually prefer my coconut oil be liquid and most of the time it is. My indoor temperature is almost always 80+F.

Personally I think you would be better off upping the carb content of your diet to reach your cal needs. Nut based paleo baked goods should be a treat food imo as they aren't necessarily that healthy.

What book? What else are you eating? Nuts are a problematic food for a lot of people. If they give you issues, don't eat them.
