Paleo cheat and blood sugar crash

Hi,

Today I was out with friends at a cafe and decided to have a cheat treat and got a piece of carrot cake. I figured since I had walked there (approx 40 mins) and was due to walk home too that hopefully I would work it off.

When I got back home about 1.5 hours later I went all shaky, sweaty and dizzy and had to sit down for 10 mins til it passed.

Is this what they call a 'blood sugar crash'? Is it because I have been doing paleo for 3 weeks and my body was unused to the sugar? Or did I just burn it all off on the walk home and need some food? Or could it have been dehydration?

Yes I am doing semi-low carb. Aiming for max 80g carbs, mainly from veggies. I didn't think that was low enough to be ketogenic but I do have signs of being in ketosis (body odour and breath and thirsty all the time)

Are you low-carb? Have you been on a ketogenic diet since starting paleo? If so, then eating a bunch of carbs at once will definitely mess you up. If not, then it might be a bunch of things.

Definitly a Blood sugar crash. Being on paleo for a short peroid of time like 3 weeks your body is still trying to create more enzymes to digsest the proteins and the fats. When you threw that carrot cake in there your blood sugar simply just skyrocketed and then plummeted again. At the initial point of Paleo I would try to make it a couple months before throwing in cheats so your body can better handle the situation! hope that helps!
