hey folks. i am getting off paleo and i need to know... i have been on strict paleo for about a month and half now. zero sugars... hardly any carbs... and TONS of fat. I feel wonderful but... having some complications. and i want to try something. it's a bit personal. i was just curious... do i have to slowly detox from paleo into a normal american diet? since my body is not used to sugar... should i slowly introduce it? i am still going to try my best to make healthy choices. i amnot familiar with health... is there a danger to stopping paleo and eating usual diet? blood sugar wise? insulin wise? i am 100% perfectly healthy. i just want to make sure i dont send my body into some kind of shock or something. i am a hypochondriac so i would appreciate the feedback. thanks very much everybody

Increased anxiety on a VLC diet? It's not uncommon.
Folks with existing adrenal/thyroid problems often fare poorly on VLC/ketogenic diets. I experienced this first hand, and it wasn't pleasant!
What you'll want to do is start eating starches and maybe some fruit. A potato with every meal is a good way to begin.
Keep eating paleo (whole foods), but aim for 30% or more carbs in your diet. I'm almost certain you'll recover.

Start out with the best carbs. Things like buttered sweet potatoes, pumpkin and winter squash, unsweetened yogurt (and other fermented foods) and berries. The fermented foods should help start repopulating your gut with carb-digesting enzymes.
If you start out easy you won't end up back at the SAD. You'll probably gain 5-10 lbs as you rebalance to higher glycogen levels.

Since Paleo obviously tries to avoid toxins, detoxing would be impossible. Probably won't have any near term issues of moving back to a bad diet, long term seems kind of an odd choice if you are ok with Paleo.
