High calorie paleo foods?

Skinny dude trying to gain some weight, atleast 5 to 10 pounds. I need a list of high calorie paleo foods. So far i've been eating lots of fish, beef, chicken and eggs drenched in butter along with lots of different types of starches. Anything else? I don't like fruit that much and i'm careful with nuts and seeds cause of the omega 6 polyunsaturated fatty acids. I also don't do well with dairy. No processed foods like coconut milk either. Suggestions?

three meals, no snacking. It's not that I think snacking is bad, it's just that I don't have time to snack.

I haven't started linking to it yet because I'm still building it. But you can check it out at savagepaleo.com. Still working some bugs out but should be at full functionality in a couple weeks.

Depending on ability to produce bile salts, true. But if the individual is fairly fat adapted, it shouldn't be a problem. Many a kid or individual has "gotten down" on a jar of peanut butter in their day w/o being fat adapted and not been glued to a toilet for the rest of the day.

Structure your exercise program around heavy compound lifts. Deadlift, Squat, Bench Press, Military Press, Weighted pullups, Barbell Rows, Weighted Dips (ring dips are awesome). If you want further info let me know. But best of luck to you and hope this info was helpful for you! - Matt

As to the ectomorph, I know it sounds simple. But lifting a lot of heavy stuff will cause a ton of physiological adaptions. Bones and connective tissue must get stronger along with the muscles. Raw dairy would help your cause if available. Lactose is a potent growth promoter among the other things in the milk. There was an old bodybuilding approach called GOMAD (gallon of milk a day) for growth. This is not taking into account any adverse long term health effects, only packing on muscle.

As to the traditional body types, I would consider myself meso-endo. I've been through both extremes. After college I ballooned up to 255 pounds (not in a good way) and once I lost it and wrote about it on my website. I'm currently 5'10 around 195 and could gain more if I wanted but would pack on some extra padding as well.

Technically not paleo because it's a grain. But, if you tolerate it, then I'd say go for it. I think you want to make sure you are also getting a decent amount of calories from more nutrient dense foods. I personally don't think it matters when you eat it, but many others might disagree.

I dont want to look big and bulky like the bodybuilders. I just want to build more lean muscle? Have you seen Mark Sisson's body? Kinda like that. Very low body fat but noticable muscle definition.

As of right now i don't have access to raw dairy. I would have to look for a decent farm down in Homestead, FL. I'm an ectomorph btw. What are you a mesomorph?

Ahh, apparently there is also potato kugel. Though it looks like kugel is made in the oven (like casserole). I don't think it would be as crispy, golden brown delicious as the fried potatoes.

You mean kugel? I believe that has noodles in it. But yes, this wouldn't have protein. I certainly wouldn't recommend to eat it exclusively, but assuming he's getting adequate protein elsewhere, I'd think this was be a good way to pack in as many more calories as he wants.

I'm not a fan of the seeds either with the exception of sunflower seed butter. Macadamia nuts are delicious but can get a little spendy if you're trying to eat a lot of them. If you tolerated some raw dairy, raw milk could help your weight gain.

What about the phytic acid, lectins and omega 6 in most nuts though? Macadamia nuts have very little to no polyunsaturated fats, so theyre okay. I'll eat those. as far as seeds go? I aint eating seeds cause i dont like them as much as nuts and the insane amount of omega 6.

If your looking to gain weight you need more carbohydrates. If I'm trying to lose weight I eat the things you are (minus the starch). Add more carbs and lift heavy objects. I briefly touched on this in my last blog post, but if you just try to eat more, you may just end up with more energy you want to burn. Why we gain weight has a lot to do with hormonal signals in the body rather than just calories-in/calories-out diet approaches.

Make sure you have a clear reason of why you want to get big. If it's just for looks, you should consider looking at the health repercussions of getting bigger first.

Nuts and nut butters are very calorically dense. I would approach it from the exercise perspective, if you pick up a lot of heavy stuff and eat the things you mentioned, your body will adapt.

Gotta lift big to get big!

Yeah, you gotta add carbs. Your diet right now is just asking to lose weight (high fat, low carb). Just add carbs slow, with things like potatoes and sweet potatoes while lifting heavy 3x a week or less. Eat your carbs post workout and at night, and throw in intermittent fasting to stay lean (see also: www.leangains.com). That's where it's at for lean muscle building. Can also refer to the 70's big website; they aren't as "lean" there, although IMHO they have the ideal bodies...but I digress.

Mashed sweet potatoes before you go to bed. I swear I woke up 5 pounds heavier after munching out on those one night!

Peel organic potatoes, grate with a blender, fry in grass fed tallow until golden brown and add sea salt. I'd think you'd be able to put down a lot of calories that way without getting bored.

It's not hard to put down a bunch of calories and be 100% paleo compliant. Here's a screen shot I post here a lot. I normally don't weigh, measure, or count my food. But one day I did just to see what I eat. This is typical for me, not a special case, but I have no issues getting 5,000 cals a day.
