So I am trying out low carb paleo for optimum results and I know what I'm about to ask may be redundant when avoiding fruits and starches by way of keeping to low carb in order to achieve weight loss... But, just out of general curiosity, if you feel like a "night out," is it ok to drink tequila when trying to achieve ketosis? cause essentially, it has zero carbs, so I figure that it doesn't impact your carb intake for the day (granted you drink it with real limes and soda)...or is that just crack talk?

Yeah you'd think right? Yet alcohol seems to slow weight loss for most. I'd try to go without if you can. Life is short, however, and a little tequila every now and again can be a very good thing indeed.
i never get kicked out of keto when drinking vodka, avoid the fruit juices though.

be careful when drinking while in ketosis. it can cause "runaway acidosis" according to lyle mcdonald. drinking during ketosis (as long as its an unflavored, distilled liquor) will halt fat burn, but once you have run out of alcohol to burn your body should pick back up where it left off.
I haven't tested the effects on ketosis, however, n=1 and all that, I've never gotten a hang over while drinking only tequila and an occasional soda water. At most, I've felt a little bit slow and tired waking up, but no nasty headache. Ditto for single malt scotches.
If it kicks you out of ketosis, it's not that big of a deal, just don't go drinking every night, and you'll be in ketosis most of the time.
wow thanks all. i almost never drink but have just moved into a new place and housemates wanted a 'family' dinner at the mexican place up the road...only ended up having one drink but just wanted the all clear (kind of)
Carb loss, yes, but even spirits are not zero calorie. And the body does need to metabolize alcoholic poisons which requires the temporary stopping of fat burning. How temporary depends significantly on (say it with me) how periodic your alcohol consumption is.
