As Roth mentions, do not confuse palm oil with palm kernel oil. It looks like Dende oil is palm fruit oil from Brazil. Dende in Portuguese translates to something like 'palm oil'. Palm fruit oil (dende oil), sometimes called red palm fruit oil... (more)

They are pretty high in PUFAs so I would avoid them if you have high cholesterol. Once you get your cholesterol in line they aren't that bad for an occasional treat but you would definitely be better off with something homemade.

I find that things like that are OK in moderation, but keep in mind they are hyper-palatable, so they probably aren't a good idea if you're trying to lean out. Yum, though!

There's a difference between palm oil and palm kernel oil. I think the kernel oil has less polyunsaturated fat, but somebody should confirm. One big problem (if you care about these sorts of things) is that African Palms grow in tropical places... (more)
