I'm under the impression that palm kernel oil is better somehow than palm oil but I don't know much about either. Can someone enlighten me about the differences?

Yep, big difference. And usually big smoke is a sign that the oil is unrefined. African dishes with palm oil are all crockpot like stews, too. At any rate high heat frying is, in my opinion, not paleo. Smoked oil has a lot of toxins. Frankly, good... (more)

Palm oil or palm kernel oil? There's a difference. PKO is saturated from what I understand and PO is some SFA and mostly MUFA (similar to EVOO.)

I think it is completely ridiculous that companies are allowed to put an and/or in their ingredients list with regards to oils. What does that even mean? I can't tell you how many labels I read that say olive oil and/or canola oil......palm oil... (more)

I do use it occasionally, but prefer animal fats and coconut oil. I only source mine from ethical sources, though, including wilderness family, where I know they harvest and treat their indigenous partners with respect.

As a general rule, anything deep fried in anything is probably best avoided, as this implies heated oil that has now sat around for quite some time before you eat it. Home made food, Fiedler in coconut oil or pastured pork lard would be much better. (more)

Jungle Products has an organic red palm oil you can buy at Whole Foods, or health stores. Supposedly excellent for you, and I believe Paleo consistent. Theirs does not come from plantations. I find the taste pretty icky though. Coats your... (more)
