What are some high in protein low in fat snacks?

by (5) Updated February 03, 2014 at 4:16 PM Created February 08, 2013 at 8:47 PM

Hey peoples,

I'm getting tired of eating protein bars and drinking protein shakes. I'm trying to cut fat and build lean muscle.

Can anyone recommend quick high protein low fat snacks? (pre or post workout)

Thanks!

You don't need to avoid fat to cut fat.

Lorenzo, Cottage cheese is not a paleo food. Lentils and peanut butter are legumes--not paleo foods! Oatmeal is grain, for crying out loud! And, seriously, granola bars? I don't think Grog was eatin' them all the time. And I don't get the basic question here: Mark why are you looking for high protein and low fat? Paleo dieters typically expect to get more calories from fat than protein, or at least something of a ratio of 1:1. Nothing I read on this page seems to have anything at all to do with the paleo diet.

I agree, avoid carbs, more specifically avoid any white carbs (barring rice occasionally). Here are some good high-protien snacks that are easy to transport and make:

  1. Beef, ostrich, venision jerky
  2. Hard boiled eggs
  3. Hamburger patty (80/20 or leaner)

If you want gain muscle and lose fat here's what worked for me:

  1. Squatting
  2. Deadlifting
  3. Intermittent Fasting
  4. Cardio in the mornings in a fasted stated
  5. Lifting Heavy
  6. 1.5 your body weight in protien (you weigh 160, your protein intake should be 240 g)

Hope this helps.

Hi Mark,

I understand busy men are always looking for nutritious snacks to eat when they are on the go. Unfortunately, many of us end up grabbing high-carb, high-fat and low-protein convenience store snacks, which are not good nutritional choices. Here’s a list of high-protein snacks that are generally low in both carbohydrates and fat as well:

  1. Egg whites
  2. Cottage cheese and fruit
  3. Tuna
  4. Lentils
  5. Peanut butter
  6. Granola Bars
  7. Oatmeal
