I'm just about finished 14 days on Flagyl, an antibiotic and IMHO the most unpleasant drug ever invented. The nausea alone... I was on a high dose, and my tongue has grown a white coating which I read is indicative of an overgrowth of Candida. I expect there is not a speck of good flora left in me.

So what's my post-drug protocol? A high-strength probiotic, and some fermented foods, I'm guessing. I have IBS with major gas/FOPMAP issues so can't do sauerkraut and stuff like that, but was thinking of kefir and miso.

Any other ideas for getting my body back in shape? I also have a container of acacia fiber, which is prebiotic and which Chris Kresser endorses. Although in the past it also led to bloat. Do I need prebiotics as well as probiotics?

I had to take Flagyl once- Worst Drug Ever. It's hard to explain how gouged out and damaged I felt inside after a single course. – Cacktus Wayfinder Apr 7 2012 at 15:12

Ouch!

I'd go gently. Kombucha works for me and raw milk goats kefir (homemade.)

I'd wait on any fiber until you are feeling ready.

Make sure your D level is good, too.

agreed that you should start gently. I got all excited about starting kombucha and kefir, and let me just say that too much of a good thing is not always a good thing, ikwim.

But I am pleased with using homemade kefir and bottled ginger kombucha. Got my acid reflux under control in a hurry. Hope it does the same for you.

You should seriously look into the GAPS diet, it's incredible. It's main focus is how to restore gut flora in the body. It's for people with digestive issues and other issues like autism, ADHD, schizophrenia ect. You would definitely benefit from it to say the least, it's saved my life! You can buy the book online but I would just look into the website first and see what you think, it's definitely worth a few minutes of your time to check it out!! :) hope you're feeling better soon!

I've been taking Kyo-Dophilus probiotic to replenish flora. It seems to be working quite well. My digestion has improved, and I've had fewer allergy symptoms too.
