Hello all,

Some time before Christmas I discovered fasting, and got into it. My appetite started steadily decreasing; I used to have 3 meals a day, and even some snacks; it moved to 2 meals a day and a snack, and then to just two meals with nothing in between. Even working out - very intensively - fails to make me hungry, while it did before. What with all the recommendations - eat this, eat that to get so-and-so nutrient, and so-and-so vitamin - I'm finding it hard to get all the nutrition I need in just two meals a day. I am very active, and I'm tall (5'10). I should have a healthy appetite!

Now I know there are a lot of die-hard fans of fasting but I don't want responses saying this is normal. I felt a lot healthier and better when I was able to have an appetite for 3 good meals a day. I am losing my hair, my digestion feels sluggish, and I've lost some weight I haven't intended to lose (though I do NOT want to gain weight, please don't give me recommendations on that) - all I want is to maintain my weight.

I want to recover from this and boost my appetite. Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

More carbs, I guess? Btw, Milla, did you try out Danny Roddy? Did it work out for you? – Korion Feb 27 2012 at 12:44

Yeah, adding more carbs is what I'd say you'd want to do. The trick is to not over do it, and you probably want to eat them an hour or two after heavy work outs. Things like berries or sweet potatoes will do. – raydawg Feb 27 2012 at 14:03

Korion - after thinking on it, I decided to just up carbs a bit with an eye on the scale, rather than following DR; the recommendations are too conflicting, and I am not competent to decide to stick with a 'diet', so I'm continuing with just sticking to whole, real foods, and just adding more carbs. I increased fruit, had a couple of spoonfuls of raw honey, and I think its working - I woke up hungry today, managed some chocolate after breakfast, and now I just had some melon PWO. Also taking horsetail extract and rinsing hair with nettle...I think things are improving! Thanks so much! – Milla Feb 27 2012 at 15:27
I don't have an answer but I can tell you that eating fruit makes me hungry. Does it have the same effect on you? I really really want to ask you this: how did you start fasting? Is there a website I can learn about it? Can you recommend how to fast? – VB Feb 27 2012 at 17:04
Fruit on its own makes me very hungry too, VB. With fat & protein it's not a problem. – Korion Feb 27 2012 at 17:20

Perhaps you can try eating breakfast first thing in the morning upon rising. Have lunch mid day and then a late-ish dinner. This will spread your three meals out as far apart from one another as possible to allow some appetite to develop between meals.
