I don't often go into TJ's due to the mayhem and length of checkout line but recently screwed up the courage step in and, as I fully expected, found that their coconut oil is about $5 less than elsewhere. I've since discovered that they ran out and it doesn't seem to be coming back with any speed. I suffered the mental trauma of going into 3 of these places on Sunday afternoon and, nada.

Has this been the case with this product, running out until whatever the problem is is resolved (next harvest, etc.)?

Thank goodness I saw it early and grabbed a few jars before they ran out. They do this with lots of their products but we usually don't notice because the products aren't as critical. Sprouts carries it, and it is a tad more expensive than TJ's, but cheaper than Spectrum and they put it on sale from time to time.

my TJ lady said that they are just in short supply and run out quickly every time they get more in. So if you see it, get an extra so you can play the beer game too. – The Loon Feb 27 2012 at 22:24

I heard that they have been out of it at the warehouse. My local TJ's saw this coming and stocked up heavily so that their store was not effected, but from what I understand that is the current problem.

My general experience with TJ's is that the more you let them know that you want product, the more aggressively they stock it. Make sure the manager knows that you actively seek it. FYI, the product actually tastes like coconut (I know some people prefer a more flavor-neutral product).

Yeah, it does taste like coconut but it is not a strong flavor. I hardly notice it even on something as mild as fried eggs. Stronger flavors hide the coconut flavor entirely (for me). For the price that is fine with me. I've got to wonder if this is an indication of how popular Paleo is becoming. – RSB Feb 27 2012 at 20:34

I found this product a couple of weeks ago in my local Trader Joes. GREAT price, and it tastes great too. I haven’t used it before, but I was planning on using it in a brownie recipe?
