Hey everybody. I have been eating Paleo/Primal for a little over 6 Months and have never felt beter. Before that I was eating what I thought was a healthy diet, Whole "Healthy" grains, meats and Veggies. Before I started eating Paleo I also had patches of dry skin that lotions didn't seem to help. I'm really happy that the Paleo diet has cleared this up, rather quickly I'd like to add, but I notice if ever during a weekend I have too many "cheats" it starts to come back. Does anyone else have similar symptoms caused by a non-paleo diet and any idea of what specifically is happening that is causing this?

Skin issues are common with gluten intolerance and celiac disease. I had a similar issue before I found out I had celiac. I have never felt better since going paleo. I started out gluten and dairy free 5 years ago. I have been paleo for a year die to cross contamination of grains. I have not had any skin or IBS issues since going paleo.

I had always heard that Celiacs disease also caused GI problems. Would it be possible to have Celiacs with out having. Lots of gas and diarrhea? – jroe Sep 12 2010 at 21:15
I think it depends on your definition of celiac. Certainly, mounting evidence suggests that there can be a variety of illness and problems created by gluten intake. Not all the people who get some of the problems always get the gut problems as well. Also, research suggests that gluten can damaged the gut even though no obvious physical signs of gut distress are percieved by the host. SOme damage is stealth damage. I have always thought of my digestion as good in the past, but certainly, it has further improved since going paleo. I may well have had damage but not known of it. – Eva Sep 13 2010 at 0:39

Gluten caused my dry skin as well.

Other than going Paleo try taking a tablespoon of fish oil every day. Your skin gets really soft. My fiance is jealous and both my parents who are also on the regimen and in their 50's have noticed their skin feeling really soft from it.
