My supplement list is fairly short. I take CoQ10 and a K complex (200mg K1, 200mg Mk7) in the morning, and a standard ZMA (400mg mag cit, 30mg zinc, 10mg b6) in the evening. I have taken Cod Liver Oil in the past, although lately my PUFA has been so low that I've simply not felt the need to "balance" my O6/O3 as they've been OK - I might have a shotglass of the stuff once a week now.
I'm running low on the CoQ10, and am not sure if I really should bother with getting more.
My background - 33yo former strongman, losing about .3lbs per day average over the past 3 months (closer to .5lb a day minus Christmas and New Years binges) eating low-ish carbs (65-80gm/day in a 2100 cal diet with a breakdown around 30/10/60 P/C/F).
Diet contains a daily amount of local grassfed beef (usually a pound or so), CAFO bacon (about 3 strips/day), local pastured eggs (2-4/day), at least two large bunches of kale/week, as well as local carrots/turnips/tomatoes, and I do eat plantains and potatoes for two days a week to refeed carbs. My bad stuff is two large cups of coffee a day, and I sometimes will eat processed plantain chips on my refeed days, provided they are fried in palm or coconut oil, and there are no other ingredients besides salt, plantains, and oil.
Besides a little bloating and gas after the refeed days (starches tend to do this to me), I'm experiencing some pretty good health. It's oak pollen season, so I find myself blowing my nose often but I'm not miserable or mouth-breathing.
Father died at 54 due to CHD - which probably spurred on adding the CoQ10 in the first place, after reading a few articles about the cardiovascular benefits as well as the other (skin/nail health). He had other issues though (severe alcoholism, heavy tobacco user) so I'm not as concerned for myself.
So, with all the background out of the way, what are the benefits of CoQ10 supplementation? Are there any negatives?
You really need a doctor for this. CoQ10 effects on the heart are diffrent based on what you have. Of course good luck getting a doctor to tell you about CoQ10 but if you have a heart issue get it diagnosed.
