I think I eat about a head of garlic a day on my own and LOVE it! |

All medicinal foods are "poison" that is how they work, the key is for the poison to act on whatever ails you with a wide margin for error before it takes you down. Garlic fits quite squarely into that category, I've wiped out lingering infections with it, and I'm still alive, win, win. |

Everything is a poison! (No, seriously.) Almost all foods have anti-nutrients in them -- spinach, broccoli, nuts, seeds, grains, legumes, sweet potatoes. You name it, it has an anti-nutrient in it. That's why it's so important to properly prepare these foods according to the wisdom of traditional cuisines. For example, the oxalate in spinach gets neutralized when you cook it. The phytic acid in nuts gets reduced when you roast them. Call me unimpressed. |

Garlic BLOATS me to no end. Like, 12 months pregnant-looking bloating. Took me ages to test and figure out what was causing it. Was hard to narrow down as garlic is so widely used in many cuisines. |

I have found myself becoming increasingly paranoid about food... especially as I have had cancer and have firomyalgia ongoing.... oxalates are apparently bad for the latter.... I was eating almonds - good for cancer, bad for fibro.... If I do everything I am reading about I will become a breatharian...... Frankly.... it is what we THINK which influences the reaction on the body.As a person thinketh, so is she/he.... get the mind and the bodymind working together and then we won't have all this nonsence. |

It's possible. Garlic, like onions, have a high sulphur content, but they are not exactly the same. The organic mush that give onions and garlic such a strong smell are called sulphur analogues (something like that). Others in this family are skunk scent, rotten eggs, mustard gas, and that nasty stuff they put in natural gas so you know you have a leak. I'm not making this up! It was in my organic chemistry book way back when. I should add that I never had problems with garlic, but onions make me sick for a day with nausea. It's not an allergy, more like a mild poison. Onion powder is fine because it breaks up that nasty sulphur molecule. If people don't feel well after eating fresh garlic, I bet garlic powder might be fine. |

And now a song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Re6pZri8Gw All food is poison! This post from Dr. Kurt Harris has a good explanation of why garlic and other plants may have limited amounts of bad chemicals that actually end up helping us in moderate doses: http://www.archevore.com/panu-weblog/2011/2/28/william-munny-eats-his-vegetables.html |

Anyone heard of the alpha brain wave disrupting issue with garlic consumption? I've heard of it on a few forums but nobody can seem to come up with a reliable source or medical study... |
