I enjoyed Dr Shanahan's perspective. She seems to be very open-minded and flexible.
I guess I'm now called a "Swiss paleo" although I just say I'm following modern, cutting-edge, nutrition.
I was intrigued that she is so anti-drugs and supplements; she wasn't subtle about that, was she? If I'd heard that supplemental calcium winds up in your arteries and tendons, I'd forgotten. Full disclosure requires that I admit I've disliked pills including supplements all along so of course I was rooting her on while she spoke.
When my dad was in his 20s he showed signs of arthritis. His employer at the time was a classic old country doctor. He told my dad to eat a leafy green salad every day and to make sure his greens had good rich color. My dad soon had no symptoms and never showed signs of arthritis again but he told me and my brother to make sure we ate lots of leafy greens because they're full of minerals. And, we both always have regardless of what else we did or didn't eat.
It seems the old country doctor knew his stuff!
