Hello! Over the last two days I have felt weak in my legs and arms and all I want to do is sleep. I am never very hungry anymore and eat for fuel now, so is my body just not used to the much lower caloric intake? I like the fact that I don't need those crap foods and I am not craving sugar- but I don't like how I feel right now. I'm trying to get enough calories through the good foods but I don't feel like eating more. Any suggestions?
Welcome to Paleohacks! What you're feeling is entirely normal and expected. Search around on here for a while, particularly for terms like "low carb flu", "low energy" etc., and you will see that you are definitely not alone. That tired feeling in your legs is because your body is not used to using fat as a fuel source. A lot of people experience wheat-withdraw as well, which can cause headaches and flu-like symptoms. You might feel this way up to a month, but it's just your body adjusting to the life-style.
6 days in, you are right in the thick of transitioning to lower-carb, grain-free living. Stick with it, get plenty of rest, eat as much as you feel like, make sure you get enough good fat, and you feel phenomenal soon!
I don't know what exactly you are eating, but it sounds as if you have been addicted to easy carbs. Can you revise your question and include what foods you are eating. There are many many versions of paleo, so it is hard to get good feedback until we know which way you are eating.
You might also not be eating enough food. I noticed that since I was used to CRAVING food (carbs), my brain wasn't really sending normal hunger signals. After the cravings went away, I just didn't feel like eating at all. Be sure you are getting three good meals a day and drink plenty of water.
Chin up, buddy, it gets better. So much better... better than you could ever imagine. Make sure you're eating enough nutrient dense foods. It may be worth it to track what you're eating for a few days to make sure you're eating enough. Stick with it and keep us posted.
Went through something like that after about a week into it myself. All I can say is stick with it. Make sure you are getting enough calories and drinking enough water, but for me it seemed to be a transition time and in another week I was past it and felt terrific. Maybe you could try some oranges, apple or avocado that would keep you away from the simple carbs and grains, but keep you headed in the right direction.
I started exactly one week ago, I'm feeling everything you are feeling. (currently in bed on my laptop). I feel as though i want to give up and eat grains and a glass of milk. Not worth it though. Hopefully it gets better.
