Yes, I know this has been addressed before.. But, I am wondering what protein powder would be the best for a morning shake. Reasons are: I am VERY short on time in the morning (have to be at work by 8, and I already go to the gym first), and I don't want eggs and/or meat everyday, besides that's not really an option.. I would like to be able to make up a protein shake with veggies and some fruit, but I don't know what protein to use. I used to use soy about 10 years ago, and most recently had this kind (http://www.amazon.com/Garden-Life-Organic-Protein-Grams/dp/B0031JK96C). I know neither one of those are good because of legumes/grains in them. I would prefer a non-flavored protein, or one with little flavor.
Would eggs in a shake be a good enough source of protein?
And somewhat related, are Spirulina and/or Maca Powder OK on Paleo?
I go to whey protein powder in a pinch, but it sounds like you would benefit by making your breakfast the night before. Egg dishes, or even boiled eggs can be eaten on the run. I don't add lots of extras to my occasional protein drink, preferring to focus on real food instead. If you want to add something, try some real kale or broccoli.
I've heard good things about Mark Sisson's Primal Fuel. I know it's not 100% paleo, but it's pretty close, and if you're looking for "pretty close", I'd think that this is a decent option. For me, the protein powder that I take is definitely one of the things that I do not consider paleo at all, and so I don't even try to make it loo that way.
I like the taste of the whey powder from www.wellnessresources.com. On the website it is called Daily Protein (Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Unflavored), and there's also a Daily Protein Plus (Chocolate,Vanilla, Original), which has a little fiber and other goodies. "The whey protein itself comes from American cows not fed any animal by-products or synthetic growth hormone (BSE-free). The whey protein is certified GMO-free." Lactose is removed. Apparently not from grass-fed cows. No sweeteners added. Claims are made about using the best and newest technology for making whey powder. I also like Miracle Whey from www.Mercola.com, made from grass-fed cows and comes in 7 flavors, and "Original" is unflavored.
