I have framed you all for hate speech against low fat diets, and the conventionally wise jury has sentenced you to death. What would your last meal be, if anything was allowed? Including pastured everything, the most esoteric offal, and even, gasp, non-paleo foods!

Mine would be a bacon cheddar burger on a kaiser roll, garlic curly fries, peanut butter cheesecake, and a pint of Ben and Jerry's Half Baked ice cream.

This is truly a hard question though. Do any of your last meals not include any meat? I'm actually not a big meat fan except for burgers and bacon.

Spinach!!!!! And then I would become Popeye-like strong. And I could free myself. And force the gate. And run home. And be happy and free again. The end.

And of course, once free, I would eat all the other delicious food everybody else mentioned in their answers. – Pieter D Sep 17 2010 at 14:57

Haven't been able to think of anything better than this for 2 days. Well done. Your answer, not the kobe. That would be med-rare. I might chase it with 85% cocoa chocolate, tho. – Angelo - Latest in Paleo Sep 17 2010 at 3:07

Big ass steak medium rare (no sauce- just salt and the natural flavors), mashed sweet potato made with heavy cream and mint, tomato basil mozzarella salad, a good woody Cabernet, Creme Brule, pint of Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby, and a Blanton's neat. Also I'd demand they let my husband do the cooking- I've never had better food and that not just love talking!

How soon after the meal would I be killed? Before the sugar flu sets in?

No, you'd be killed right before chronic disease sets in. – Kamal Sep 16 2010 at 0:16

If I were going to die anyway, I would just have them wheel up trucks full of white, milk and dark chocolate, brie cheese, loaves of crusty white bread, and champagne. I would just keep on eating until I was comatose - then they could off me with a strained smile on my face.

Edit: add to that list a few jars of nut butters, a cheesecake or four, a buttload of sour and sweet candies...

But the stupid thing is that when I actually think about a meal that I would want as my last taste of food, it's painfully paleo: a big bunch of greens sautéed in coconut oil and butter, topped with runny eggs and crispy bacon! How conditioned am I?!

A plate of grilled cheese sandwiches, and some nice champagne in a pint glass.

Or some pastured vegan, always wanted to try that.

Also, I've been waiting to be asked this question for about ten years. Whenever I try to get this conversation going elsewhere it tends to grind things to a halt.

I'd definitely fast so my head was clear for the execution.

Would I hell. I'd have a massive bacon cheeseburger, chunky fries, a milkshake, ice cream liberally sprinkled with candy. With a double scotch and a fat Cuban cigar to follow

Smoked salmon, champagne and a huge amount of sleeping pills.

Wow. This is the most difficult question on Paleohacks.com. The problem is I have so many foods I want to eat, but they're so filling!
SO, I would want a sampler with: Bacon cheeseburger sliders, a slice of pizza (topped with sausage, bacon, jalpenos, and black olives), a walnut brownie (warm), pumpkin pie, red velvet cake, a glass of milk, a bag of kettle cooked potato chips, and I would finish it off with a few oz of single malt scotch.

Lombardi's Pizza with beef & sausage (NYC), Gino's East Deep Dish Pizza with beef & sausage (CHI), Laulau (most anywhere in HI), a deep-red real Rose wine, and finish with a load of fresh-made Buttercream frosting.

Now I am craving Laulau like crazy and it is actually paleo: pork, butterfish, porkfat, & taro leaves all wrapped in Ti leaves and steamed. Heaven.

Mitterand's meal I'd have crabcakes and lobster.
Those two are tops on the list. Others to follow

  • Braised beef short ribs (falling apart) or Wienerschnitzel
  • Sauteed mushrooms and onions with gravy to top
  • Roasted asparagus with an orange-pistachio sauce
  • Mashed potatoes
  • A good red wine

  • Dessert: flourless dark chocolate cake with a scoop of very high quality vanilla ice cream

  • Dunkin Donuts coffee with heavy cream and (yes, though I normally avoid:) a bit of sugar

if the effects of glutenning wouldn't set in before execution:

  • pancakes with real maple syrup (my last pre-no-gluten meal actually)
  • equal size portion of crispy blackforest rubbed bacon from whole foods
  • the hash brown casserole thing from cracker barrel
  • homemade dill pickles
  • chocolate cream-line milk
  • back in black 21st amendment ipa to wash it down

non-gluten option would be:

  • slow smoked bbq brisket and ribs with spicy bbq sauce from Green Mesquite in Austin, TX
  • garlic mash potatoes
  • corn bread with sweet cream whipped butter
  • some homemade dill pickles
  • chocolate cream-line milk
  • a hendricks gimlet
  • while listening to Neutral Milk Hotel

The over-the-top cooked-by-a-master-Chinese-chef meal of doom I've been craving ever since I got diagnosed with celiac and most Chinese food went off limits for me. It's not like I'd need to worry about glutening symptoms the next day...

  1. warm Peach Cobbler (yes, it's capitalized.)
  2. small batch Bourbon (again, yes.) 3.a Nat Sherman (it's a proper noun, rules are rules.)

Can you tell I'm from down South?

Hard choice. I would also want my Grandma's biscuits and gravy, a braised lamb shank, and some pomme frites.

Something very Paelo, with lots of fat and protein, but most importantly with lots and lots of iron* in it, which is probably THE most essential nutrient for those on Death Row.

  • in the form of a file, hacksaw, and handgun...
