Elena, I added Type I and diabetes to the tags, and included Type I in the question. Hope that is all right. I wish you success in having normal blood sugars and being healthy. :) – PaleoGran Mar 8 2012 at 18:50

YES.

I've been eating paleo for the past few year, and it has made my life, with respect to managing my diabetes, incredibly easy and healthy.

Paleo tends to be low carb, and because of that I take very minimal doses of insulin. This is a good thing. Sometimes I take 1-2 units at a meal. Before Paleo I was taking 5 or 6 units with meals. With less insulin pumping around in my body there are much less swings of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, and usually no swings at all. I almost dont need to test my blood glucose sometimes. It has gotten me incredibly lean as well

Check out a post of mine on 1happydiabetic.com with my blood sugar readings from my CGM for 24 hours--

Also, as someone with type 1 diabetes I am susceptible to other autoimmune diseases. Grains, legumes and dairy, which I avoid with paleo, are possible triggers for autoimmune diseases.

In my opinion, paleo is THE type 1 diabetes diet.

Elena, a paleo food list and keeping Dr. Richard Bernstein's recommendations would help tremendously.

Dr. Richard Bernstein is THE expert on diabetes.

Here is a link to much of his book, The Diabetes Solution, online. The newest edition of that book costs less at Amazon. That is the lastest edition, from 2011.

Dr. Bernstein is a type I, and developed a way of eating, and using medicines and/or supplements, and exercise, to normalize blood sugars, and maintain healthy blood sugars.

In my opinion, it is genius. I follow his food plan, and find it easy to follow, simple, and most enjoyable.

Here is a talk he gave to the Nutrition and Metabolism society:

There is a link at the site diabetes-book.com for a talk he gave, too.
