Where do you get organ meats and which ones do you like? I'm interested in starting to eat them.... I do all of my shopping at organic grocery stores and I don't even know where to start.

I get offal from the Farmer's market (grass fed beef innards), Asian market (duck gizzards, pork hearts), and a Mediterranean store (all kinds of goat/sheep innards, including tripe) close to where I live in the Bay Area. |

I get mine from the butcher from whom I get all my holistically-raised, locally-grown meat. I buy all the 'spare parts' by request -- I just ask at the meat counter if they have XYZ. For example, yesterday, I asked my butcher if he had chicken necks and livers -- he had the necks, but no chicken livers... but he told me he DID have some duck livers... which I happily took off his hands. If you ask, the people in the butcher's section can help you find what you need. |

Do the stores you shop in have a butcher section? Or is there a good butcher you could ask locally? I get everything from my local butcher, he has so much more than is on display - and if he doesn't have it in the store he can almost always order it in. I think they actually like it when people ask for the things they rarely sell! |

I buy directly from the processor. I get liver, tongue and heart for $2/lb. |

I don't have a butcher nearby, so I usually go to Whole Foods- grass-fed organs are usually $4.99/lb. I like heart and liver, but kidneys taste like old urinal. |
